Help keep one of our busiest transport operations moving.

Our Coventry Hub can process up to 500,000 parcels every day, and behind that scale is a transport operation that needs to run safely, legally and on time.

We're looking for an experienced Transport Supervisor to join our PM shift on a 12-month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave.

Reporting to the Transport Shift Manager, you'll help lead the day-to-day transport operation across the PM shift. You'll work closely with our drivers, ensuring they're fully briefed, vehicles and routes are compliant, departures happen on time and any issues are resolved quickly.

You'll need to be comfortable working in a fast-paced transport environment where plans can change quickly. You'll be visible, hands-on and confident making decisions to keep the operation moving.

  • Briefing and debriefing drivers, making sure allocated runs and instructions are clearly understood and completed.
  • Reviewing route manifests and confirming all allocated work, working time and kilometres are accurately accounted for.
  • Challenging and investigating late arrivals or departures and taking appropriate action.
  • Working with internal and external stakeholders around collections and deliveries to ensure agreed service levels are achieved.
  • Making sure vehicle defects identified during checks or while on the road are actioned appropriately.
  • Ensuring accidents and vehicle damage are reported accurately and promptly.
  • Maintaining accurate vehicle and trailer information across our systems.
  • Downloading and interpreting information from digital tachographs.
  • Monitoring vehicle telematics and identifying areas requiring action.
  • Managing the Transport Management System and ensuring operational plan changes are accurately reflected.
  • Ensuring drivers remain fully compliant with legislative and company requirements.
  • Completing Health & Safety activities including yard walks and vehicle checks.
  • Maintaining strong operational standards and housekeeping across the transport environment.
  • Using operational data to produce management and KPI reports, carrying out root cause analysis and identifying appropriate actions.
  • Motivating and supporting drivers while resolving day-to-day operational problems.
  • Deputising for the Transport Shift Manager when required.

What we're looking for

You'll already have experience working within a busy transport or traffic office environment and understand what it takes to keep a time-critical transport operation running effectively.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Previous transport or traffic office experience.
  • Experience supervising or managing people at first-line manager level or above.
  • Good knowledge of transport compliance and drivers' hours requirements.
  • Experience using transport management, telematics and tachograph analysis systems such as Isotrak, Ortec or Tachomaster, or similar.
  • Experience monitoring KPIs and producing reports using management information systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly when operational plans change.
  • Experience of route optimisation would be advantageous.
  • Confidence communicating with drivers, colleagues and internal and external stakeholders.
  • A professional, respectful approach with the ability to motivate others and maintain high operational standards.
  • A Transport Manager CPC is desirable, although we're also happy to consider candidates who are willing to work towards the qualification.
