Salary: £37,224 (plus a non-consolidated shift allowance of up to 15%)

The Role

Security, Policing and Enforcement Directorate (SPE) is responsible for shaping Transport for London’s (TfL) approach to safety, security, policing and enforcement across the transport network. The Directorate works to protect customers, colleagues and the wider London community by delivering enforcement, safeguarding and security services, while ensuring that regulations are applied fairly, consistently and proportionately. Through this work, SPE supports TfL’s purpose of moving London safely, inclusively and sustainably for everyone who lives in, works in or visits the city.

SPE Operations provides a professional, highly visible compliance and enforcement service across the breadth of TfL services. As a Transport Support and Enforcement Officer (TSE) you will be providing a reassuring visible presence, enforcing the rules and the regulations of our services. As part of this role, you may carry out specific enforcement duties, for example carrying out vehicle checks or checking passengers’ tickets. The role works with security and enforcement teams across TfL, as well as alongside our policing partners, local authorities and other non-TfL enforcement teams, contributing to the delivery of a safe, secure and reliable transport network.

You will be the sort of person who welcomes a challenge, shows strong resilience and someone who can defuse potentially difficult situations. You will be confident, firm, assertive, empathetic, and use initiative and sound judgement, to make informed decisions. Most of all, you will be the sort of person who wants to make a real difference, contributing to making our network a safe environment for all our users.

This role has a varied shift pattern, which may include working weekends, nights, and bank holidays (rosters are always subject to change).

Please note that due to the nature of this role, you may encounter situations which involve violence and aggression either aimed at you, colleagues that you work with, or between members of the public. You may also encounter situations which raise safeguarding concerns (such as situations involving children and vulnerable adults) where you will be required to act in support of the individuals involved.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
