Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly driven Transport Manager to take full operational and compliance responsibility for a busy Bristol transport operation.

This is a key leadership position within a well-established logistics business, offering the opportunity to manage a fast-paced operation at a green-banded OCRS site with strong existing compliance standards.

The role

As Transport Manager, you will be responsible for delivering a safe, compliant, efficient, and customer-focused transport operation. You will lead the transport team, maintain Operator Licence compliance, and drive continuous improvement across fleet performance, service levels, and operational KPIs.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking responsibility for the site’s Operator Licence undertakings
  • Maintaining the site’s green OCRS status and high compliance standards
  • Managing driver hours, tachograph compliance, and Working Time Directive requirements
  • Monitoring vehicle maintenance, PMI schedules, defects, and MOT performance
  • Leading, coaching, and developing drivers, planners, and transport colleagues
  • Managing daily transport operations within a fast-paced, time-critical environment
  • Driving improvements across fleet utilisation, productivity, and cost control
  • Monitoring KPIs, service levels, operational performance, and customer delivery standards
  • Managing driver conduct, infringements, investigations, and corrective actions
  • Ensuring robust systems are in place for audits, risk assessments, and safe working practices
  • Working closely with internal departments, customers, and external suppliers
  • Promoting a positive culture of safety, compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement

About you

We are looking for an established, hands-on Transport Manager with:

  • A valid Transport Manager CPC
  • Strong knowledge of Operator Licence compliance
  • Proven experience managing an HGV transport operation
  • Excellent understanding of driver hours, tachographs, and the Road Transport Working Time Directive
  • Experience managing fleet maintenance, defects, PMIs, and vehicle availability
  • A strong track record of protecting or improving OCRS performance
  • Confident leadership and people-management skills
  • Experience working with transport KPIs, budgets, and performance data
  • A proactive, commercially aware, and solutions-focused approach
  • The ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a demanding operation
