Your Role: Discipline Engineering Leader
Shape the future of the rail industry by leading a specialised Transverse Discipline (TD) team. Your expertise will guide Aerodynamics, Human Factors, Environmental Adaptation, Acoustics, Fire Safety, or Eco Design while managing cross-functional projects, ensuring delivery quality and compliance with Alstom’s global standards and tools (APSYS).
Key Responsibilities:

Technical Ownership:
- Ensure rigorous application of Train Design Rules, Standards, and tools within your domain.
- Verify compliance on critical documents through approved routes.
- Align team capacity with project demands, identifying skills gaps and resource realignment.

Stakeholder Leadership:
- Collaborate with UK and global teams, escalating risks and driving cross-functional solutions.
- Engage in Alstom’s Transverse Discipline Network for continuous improvement.
- Propose solutions to the Central Train Design Office for systemwide enhancements.

- Develop and mentor teams to balance right-first-time delivery against timeline constraints.
- Champion safety standards while maximising innovation in engineering solutions.

Strategic Execution:
- Advance the APSYS roadmap for Transverse Discipline (audit, track improvement, testing proposals).
- Alert leadership in capacity crunches, skills erosion, or rule applicability conflicts.
About You
We seek talent over tickets. Here’s what puts you ahead for this role:
Qualifications & Experience:

Engineering Degree (Mechanical or related) or equivalent, ideally with deep expertise in "specialist discipline fields" like:
- Aerodynamics
- Human Factors
- Environmental/Climatic Adaptation
- Eco Design
- Acoustics
- Fire Safety

Industry-Proven:
- 10+ years’ railway experience preferred (metros, signalling, leading-edge projects welcome).
- Notable track record managing teams from multiple engineering disciplines.
- Hands-on proficiency in requirements management, quality checklists, and APSYS.
Soft Skills:
- Communication – Clarity in both technical writing and verbal collaboration across functions.
- Adaptability – Proven resilience in ambiguous environments.
