Hours: 37 hours per week
Location: You will be expected to attend a CBC office location as often as needed to carry out your role, which will be no less than once per month.
Contract Type: Hybrid - Permanent

About the role
An exciting opportunity to join Transport colleagues in delivering sustainable transport plan and schemes as part of new growth in Central Bedfordshire. The role is to develop, monitor and deliver Travel Plans in selected new developments. The aim of this role is to encourage and nudge new communities in newly build homes to embrace sustainable transport.
As the Travel Plan Coordinator, you will be responsible for the end-to-end coordination of this extensive programme of works through liaising with developers and council colleagues to develop and progress schemes to encourage uptake of sustainable transport in Central Bedfordshire.
This role sits within the Council's Highways team and will be working closely with Public Transport and Transport Strategy teams and will be central to ensuring delivery is effective, accountable, and aligned with both local needs and national objectives.
The successful candidate will:
- Develop, manage, update and deliver Travel Plans for new developments
- Lead on stakeholder management and liaison between council officers, external clients and stakeholders
- Manage internal and external engagement and consultations and be the lead on communication with residents and service providers
- Lead on development and implementation of specific schemes - car clubs, bike share and other schemes
- Be responsible for procurement, monitoring and other supporting activities as part of the Travel Plan delivery
- Finance and budget management, including decision making, securing appropriate approvals and reporting
- Contribute towards development of a wider Sustainable Transport, Active Travel and Public Transport strategy/vision.
Your role
- Develop and implement the council's strategic approach to sustainable transport and active transport in line with the Sustainability Plan objectives in the context of delivering walking, cycling and public transport targets for some of our largest new developments.
- Delivering Travel Plan actions to achieve this through working with developers and housebuilders, alongside other Council colleagues and contractor to minimise impact on our transport network and facilitate modal shift to more sustainable transport and active travel.
- Responsible for managing the delivery budget and reporting on and communicating progress towards achieving these targets.

Specific tasks include:
- Stakeholder management and engagement to ensure efficient delivery of agreed Travel Plan
- Delivering monitoring and evaluation of progress
- Procurement of interventions – car clubs, bike share and other schemes
- Liaise with the council and other partners to ensure delivery of projects on the ground. Examples may include – new or upgraded cycling infrastructure and electric vehicle related projects
Essential experience and qualifications
We are looking for a motivated and experienced in delivering sustainable transport individual with strong stakeholder engagement and management skills.
We are seeking a proactive professional with a strong programme management, stakeholder management and project delivery skills. Background in public sector project and delivery - ideally in transport, infrastructure, or place-based services would be desirable.
You will bring:
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Experience in managing or coordinating transport programmes
- A solid understanding of local transport policy, funding, or service improvement
- Previous Local Authority experience within a similar role (desired)
- Experience project managing several schemes and projects with ability to apply critical thinking to prioritise workloads
- Monitoring and evaluation skills
- Good understanding of budget and finance management
