The Lawscot Foundation is seeking a Treasurer to join its Board of Trustees to help safeguard the charity’s long-term financial sustainability.

As Treasurer, you will provide strategic oversight of the Foundation’s finances, ensuring strong governance, transparency, and robust financial controls. Working alongside fellow Trustees, the Law Society of Scotland’s finance team, and external examiners, you will help maintain the charity’s financial health and bolster its mission to support aspiring solicitors facing socioeconomic barriers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the development and approval of the Foundation’s annual budget.
  • Monitoring financial performance and reporting income and expenditure against agreed budgets.
  • Presenting clear financial reports to the Board and AGM, highlighting key issues and responding to Trustee enquiries.
  • Liaising with the Law Society of Scotland’s Finance Team on financial matters affecting the Foundation.
  • Working with independent financial examiners during the annual review of the Foundation’s financial statements.
  • Ensuring statutory returns and regulatory requirements are met, including submissions to OSCR and maintaining strong financial governance.

The Treasurer is expected to attend regular Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting (in total approx. 4 meetings per year), together with occasional discussions with the Law Society of Scotland's finance team and financial examiners as required.

Please note this is a voluntary, unpaid role. Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential.
