Join The AVOCADO Foundation as Treasurer and Finance & Risk Trustee

Helping strengthen financial oversight, risk management, and long-term financial resilience as the organisation enters its next stage of growth.

What difference will you make?

Financial resilience is a key priority for The AVOCADO Foundation as we enter our next stage of growth.

The Treasurer and Finance & Risk Trustee will strengthen the Board’s ability to understand and oversee the organisation’s financial position, financial risks, and long-term sustainability.

Their contribution will help ensure that the Board has clear and reliable financial information when making strategic decisions. They will also support stronger financial controls, effective risk management, and appropriate oversight of reserves and financial planning.

This will be particularly important as The AVOCADO Foundation works to diversify its income and develop the AVOCADO HUB as both a mission-delivery and income-generating asset.

Strong financial oversight will help the organisation protect its resources, plan confidently for the future, and continue delivering its work with young people, nonprofit organisations, and entrepreneurs.

What are we looking for?

  • A qualified or part-qualified finance professional, or equivalent senior financial experience.
  • Ability to translate financial information for non-finance specialists.
  • Sound understanding of financial governance and risk.
  • Experience of charity or nonprofit finance would be desirable.
  • Experience working with auditors and external accountants would be desirable.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically, exercise independent judgement, and work effectively as part of a Board.
  • Willingness and ability to understand and accept the responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship and act in the best interests of the organisation.
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Alignment with our values: Integrity, Intelligence, Interaction, and Inspiration.
  • We particularly welcome applications from people with lived experience relevant to our mission and from communities currently underrepresented on our Board.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What will you be doing?

Our Board currently comprises six trustees, with two completing their terms in December 2026. We are appointing new trustees to strengthen and refresh the Board as The AVOCADO Foundation moves into its next stage of growth.

One of our key priorities is to build long-term financial resilience and diversify our income. We are looking for a Treasurer and Finance & Risk Trustee to provide strategic oversight and assurance of our financial affairs, financial controls, and financial risk.

The trustee will:

  • Lead the Board’s oversight of budgets, management accounts, and annual financial statements.
  • Provide assurance that appropriate accounting records, procedures, and financial controls are in place and operating effectively.
  • Support the Board to review and approve financial policies, including reserves and cost management.
  • Advise the Board on the financial viability of the charity and the financial implications of its strategic plans.
  • Monitor and report to the Board on the charity’s financial risk-management framework.
  • Provide assurance that annual accounts are prepared, approved, and filed in accordance with Charity Commission requirements.
  • Lead Board discussions on finance and risk and help keep the wider Board’s financial understanding up to date.
  • Advise on financial strategy, investment of reserves, and long-term sustainability.
  • Support the CEO and executive team in developing financial resilience aligned with the organisation’s strategic priorities.

This role is particularly important as we work to strengthen our financial resilience and ensure the organisation is well placed to grow sustainably.
