We're seeking a Treasurer with solid finance experience to provide governance and direction for our £200K loneliness charity.
What difference will you make?
The finance skills our Treasurer brings to our board don't just enable our operations, they help us create and hold a bigger vision for the charity and its future. When we're on the front foot with our finances, forecasting well, progressing towards targets, and have the ability to respond quickly to challenges, this enables us to think clearly at the macro level. During the next year we'll be developing our 2028-2033 strategy, with plenty of opportunity to get involved in this.
What are we looking for?
We're looking for somebody who is willing to take a hands-on approach, getting familiar with our accounts, requesting the information they need, and working to ensure our financial management and reporting is as clear and robust as possible. In terms of skills, we seek
- A finance professional, with knowledge of charity finance is an advantage, otherwise an enthusiasm to learn, drawing from sound commercial experience and an understanding of SMEs.
- A strategic thinker with an ability to balance risk and opportunity, and an ability to scale corporate experience to the world of a small charity.
- Clear communicator with the ability to bring financial information alive to non-finance specialists.
- Willing to play an active role in areas such as forecasting, setting budgets, liaising with independent examiner.
- Available for quarterly in-person evening meetings, and occasional ad-hoc online daytime meetings / calls with staff or other trustees.

What will you be doing?
Our Treasurer plays a vital role in our charity, bringing confidence and clarity to our finances, so our staff can get on with transforming loneliness into connection for lonely people and isolated communities.
As our staff work to make every penny count, the Treasurer provides guidance, reassurance and steer for our board, ensuring they're always up-to-speed on the financial trajectory and on the front foot. This involves keeping abreast of management and end-of-year accounts, operational budget and cashflow forecast, flagging issues, identifying opportunities, and translating the latest figures into a clear narrative and recommendations for the board of trustees.

While accounting and corporate finance skills are helpful, we're looking for a Treasurer who will look forwards as well as backwards, and be available to support the charity's Exec Director, as well as the Chair of the board of trustees.
Our board has a close relationship with our senior management team, and is a friendly group who recognise that getting to know each other supports effective shared working. We're looking to expand and diversify our board, making it even more representative of the Tower Hamlets communities we serve.
We have a few sub-committees that provide direction on various areas of the charity's work, with the Finance sub-committee meeting quarterly ahead of board meetings.
