Trustee Treasurer (Voluntary)
Help shape the future of one of London’s oldest charities.
BlindAid is seeking an experienced finance professional to join our Board of Trustees as Treasurer.
Founded in 1834, BlindAid supports blind and partially sighted people across Inner London through our Community Sight Support Service, Community Classes, Share London volunteering programme and independent living grants. Each year we support around 1,200 beneficiaries to reduce isolation, improve wellbeing and maintain independence.
We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with lived experience of sight loss. We believe representation is important and strongly encourage applications from blind and partially sighted people. However, lived experience of sight loss is not essential, and we welcome applications from anyone who shares our commitment to supporting blind and partially sighted Londoners.
About the role
As Treasurer, you will provide financial oversight and strategic guidance to BlindAid's Board of Trustees. Working closely with the Chair, Chief Executive and senior leadership team, you will help ensure the charity remains financially sustainable, well governed and able to maximise its impact.

This is a voluntary trustee appointment, initially for a three-year term.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic oversight of BlindAid's finances, reserves and investments.
- Review budgets, management accounts, forecasts and annual accounts.
- Advise the Board on financial risks and opportunities.
- Help ensure robust financial controls, governance and compliance.
- Support long-term financial planning and sustainability.
- Work with external accountants, independent examiners and auditors.
- Contribute to Board discussions and strategic decision-making.
- Act as an ambassador for BlindAid and support the charity's development where appropriate.
Qualifications
Essential
- Senior-level experience in finance, accountancy, audit, banking, treasury, investment management or a related profession.
- Strong financial analysis and strategic decision-making skills.
- Ability to interpret financial reports and communicate financial information clearly.
- Good judgement, integrity and an ability to provide constructive challenge.
- Commitment to BlindAid's mission and values.

Desirable
- Professional accountancy or finance qualification.
- Previous trustee, governor or non-executive experience.
- Knowledge of charity finance and governance.
- Experience of investments, reserves or risk management.
- Experience of fundraising or income generation.
- Lived experience of sight loss or visual impairment, although this is not essential.
Time Commitment
Approximately 8-10 hours per month, including:
- Four Board meetings per year.
- Preparation and review of meeting papers.
- Occasional committee meetings, strategy sessions and charity events.
- Most meetings are held virtually, with occasional in-person meetings in London.
