Home-Start Wandsworth is seeking a qualified accountant to join our Board as Treasurer.

A great opportunity to use your financial expertise to support local families while gaining valuable Board-level experience with a well-established charity.

What difference will you make?

Strong financial leadership is essential to Home-Start Wandsworth’s ability to support local families, both now and in the future.

Our Treasurer will help ensure that the Board has a clear understanding of the charity’s finances and can make confident, informed decisions about how we use our resources. Their oversight and challenge will help us manage financial risks, maintain strong controls and plan sustainably for the future.

They will also provide valuable financial expertise to our Managing Director, particularly when considering funding, fundraising, investment and longer-term strategic decisions.

Ultimately, this role is about much more than the numbers. By helping Home-Start Wandsworth remain financially resilient, well governed and sustainable, our Treasurer will help us make the best use of every pound available and ensure we can continue providing vital support to families across Wandsworth when they need us most.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a qualified accountant who can bring strong financial expertise, sound judgement and a strategic perspective to our Board.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • You will have significant financial management experience and be comfortable interpreting financial information, identifying risks and providing constructive challenge.
  • You should be able to communicate financial matters clearly and accessibly to trustees and colleagues who may not have a financial background.
  • You will have a good understanding of financial governance, controls, budgeting and financial planning, and be confident advising on how financial systems and processes can be used effectively and efficiently.

Just as importantly, we are looking for someone who is collaborative, pragmatic and supportive. You will be comfortable acting as a trusted adviser to our Managing Director while maintaining the independence and oversight required of a Treasurer.

An interest in our work supporting families in Wandsworth and a commitment to using your professional expertise to help the charity thrive are important.

Previous charity, Treasurer or trustee experience would be helpful, but is not essential.

As Treasurer, you will:

  • Lead the Board’s financial oversight, helping trustees understand our financial position and make well-informed decisions about our future.
  • Present financial information to the Board and provide insight, leadership and constructive challenge on budgets, performance, reserves, financial strategy and future plans.
  • Oversee strong financial governance, ensuring that appropriate financial processes, controls and policies are in place and that we meet relevant regulatory and funder requirements.
  • Oversee our investment strategy and the preparation, scrutiny and approval of the annual accounts and trustees’ report.

Working closely with our Managing Director, you will be a trusted financial adviser and sounding board, bringing your expertise to strategic decisions, including our approach to funding and fundraising.

Day-to-day financial management remains with the staff team, so this is very much a strategic role focused on oversight, assurance and expert guidance.

It is a great opportunity to use your professional experience in a Board-level role where your contribution can have a tangible impact on a valued local charity and the families it supports.
