Treasurer

We're looking for a Treasurer to lead our financial operations managing payments, invoicing, expenses, and bank accounts, and overseeing a small volunteer finance team. You'll keep our records accurate, report to founders regularly, and help improve our processes as we grow.

What difference will you make?

Right now, financial admin is stretched thin across a small team juggling everything else the charity needs. With someone dedicated to managing our finances properly, more time can be spent on rescue operations, adoptions, and welfare casework, the work that changes dogs' lives.

It also means clearer decision-making knowing our financial position lets us plan further ahead, protect our reserves, and grow at a pace we can sustain. Getting these foundations right now means financial management won't become the bottleneck as BFS takes on more dogs and more volunteers.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

  • Genuine experience in financial management budgeting, forecasting, and keeping accurate records
  • Comfort using bookkeeping or accounting software tools
  • Experience managing or coordinating a small team, since you'll be building and supporting a group of volunteers
  • High integrity: you'll be trusted with the charity's money and expected to be transparent about it
  • Attention to detail, and comfort flagging problems early rather than letting them slide
  • Clear communication skills, able to explain financial matters simply to people without a finance background
  • Reliability with deadlines, particularly around our Charity Commission filing
  • An interest in improving processes, not just maintaining them, as we build better financial systems while we grow

Not essential, but a strong bonus

  • Previous experience as a treasurer or finance lead for another small charity or CIO

Basil's Forever Sofa is a small, remote charity rescuing dogs from Romania, run by a lean founding team who currently juggle finance alongside every other part of running the charity. As we grow, we need someone to take ownership of our financial operations so the trustees can focus on rescue and rehoming.

This is a hands-on role - you'll run our day-to-day finances (payments, invoicing, expenses, and bank account management) and build and lead a small team of volunteers to support that work. You'll also help us professionalise our financial processes as we scale, something we haven't had the capacity to focus on properly until now.

This role is genuinely foundational. Every dog we rescue, transport, and rehome depends on funds being managed accurately and responsibly. Get this right, and you're enabling us to help more dogs and grow sustainably. You'll have real autonomy to shape how our finances work.
