Use your financial expertise to help a West London charity tackling youth violence through shame-informed therapy
As we move to Xero, refresh our financial framework, and grow earned income through training and consultancy, we need a Treasurer to guide us through this pivotal stage.
What difference will you make?
Your input as Treasurer will directly shape whether VIP can grow safely and sustainably, which means it shapes how many young people we can reach.
We're at a genuine inflection point. Historically, VIP has relied on trusts and grants - funding that's essential but can be unpredictable and short-term. Over the next three years, we're working to build real financial resilience diversifying our income, exploring social value in our funder relationships, and growing The Shame Initiative into a sustainable earned-income stream. None of that is possible without a Treasurer who can bring rigour to our financial management while helping the Board understand the risks and opportunities of that shift.
Practically, your oversight will mean:
- Stronger financial controls as we move onto Xero and consolidate our policies - reducing risk and strengthening the systems that keep our frontline delivery funded and protected.
- Clearer, more confident decision-making at Board level, because trustees without financial backgrounds will understand exactly where we stand and what any strategic choice actually costs.
- A credible foundation for income diversification - funders, commissioners, and corporate partners look for financial competence at Board level before they commit, especially as we pursue new earned-income routes through TSI.
- Sustainability beyond any one grant cycle - the kind of financial resilience that means Urban Therapy keeps running, and expanding, regardless of what happens to any single funding stream.
Beyond the direct financial impact, you'll be contributing to something bigger a charity trying to shift how the whole sector understands and responds to the emotional drivers of youth violence. Every hour of frontline outreach, every training session TSI delivers, depends on VIP staying financially sound enough to keep doing the work. Your expertise means we can focus on the mission because the finances are in safe hands.
Small charities feel the presence of good financial governance acutely, and you'll see the direct line between your input and our ability to reach more young people, more safely, for longer.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Valuing Lived Experience
VIP's work is built on the understanding that shame and the poverty, exclusion, trauma, and discrimination that can produce it - shapes how young people experience the world and the systems around them. We believe that boards which include people with lived experience of these issues make better, more grounded decisions, and we actively welcome applications from people with this experience alongside financial expertise.
If you have lived experience relevant to our work but are unsure whether your background or confidence with formal governance processes is the right fit, we would still encourage you to apply. We will support any new trustee, including with induction, mentoring from an existing Board member, and practical guidance on the Treasurer role, so that lived experience and professional expertise are equally valued and equally supported to contribute.
Remote
What will you be doing?
The Violence Intervention Project (VIP) is looking for a Treasurer to join our Board at a pivotal moment in our financial journey.
We're a small, values-led charity delivering Urban Therapy; long-term, shame-informed therapeutic outreach to young people aged 12–25 at risk of serious youth violence across Hammersmith & Fulham, Hounslow, Ealing, and Harrow, with a new schools programme launching in Brent this September. Alongside our frontline work, The Shame Initiative (TSI) is our newest venture training, tools, and consultancy that share our model with practitioners, academics, and policymakers nationally. In its first quarter alone, TSI trained over 100 frontline professionals.

Financially, we're in the middle of real change. We've brought on a new accountancy partner, are moving all our finances onto Xero, and are consolidating our financial policies into a clearer, more robust framework. We've also just completed a governance review, welcomed two new trustees, and are developing our next three-year strategy, all while working to diversify our income beyond trusts and grants, including growing earned income through TSI.
We need a Treasurer who can lead the Board's oversight of our financial affairs through this transition working closely with our CEO, Director of Operations & Delivery, and accountancy partner to ensure the Board has a clear, accurate picture of our financial position at all times. You'll review financial reports at our quarterly Finance Sub-Committee and four Board meetings a year, help us prepare and monitor budgets, support the submission of our annual accounts, and advise the Board on the financial implications of decisions as we scale.
Beyond the numbers, this is a chance to help shape how a growing charity manages the tension between financial rigour and ambitious mission-driven growth particularly as we build out The Shame Initiative as a genuine income stream alongside our grant funding. You'll be joining a well-engaged, hands-on Board that meets regularly and takes governance seriously, not one that convenes four times a year and disengages in between.
If you have lived experience relevant to our work, including of poverty, exclusion, trauma, discrimination, or the criminal justice system, we'd particularly love to hear from you alongside your financial background. We support all new trustees with induction, mentoring from an existing Board member, and hands-on guidance specific to the Treasurer role.
