Job Introduction
Join a Transforming Finance Team at the Heart of Bradford Council's Future
Bradford Finance is undergoing an exciting period of transformation, investment, and growth. Following a significant programme of change, the service has moved from years of underinvestment to a bold new phase focused on delivering excellence, innovation, and strategic impact across the Council.
As Bradford Council embarks on an ambitious corporate strategy, Finance is playing a pivotal role in shaping the organisation's future. Recent investment has strengthened capacity, enhanced capability, and created new opportunities for talented finance professionals to make a real difference.
Our newly restructured department is built around four specialist service areas:
- Management Accounting
- Corporate and Strategic Finance
- Projects, Systems and Commercial
- Internal Audit, Risk, Business Development and Improvement
Alongside this enhanced structure, we are investing heavily in professional development, training, and career progression, creating an environment where people can thrive and grow.
A new Finance Service Plan provides a clear strategic direction focused on increasing financial literacy across the organisation while raising the profile and influence of Finance as a trusted partner in delivering the Council's priorities. Our aim is to support innovative decision-making, drive financial sustainability, and play a leading role in Bradford's improvement and recovery journey.
The Treasury Manager is a newly created and highly influential role at the heart of this transformation. This is a unique opportunity to lead the Council's treasury function and play a critical role in securing Bradford's long-term financial resilience.
Working within the Corporate and Strategic Finance Team, you will collaborate with senior leaders, finance managers, and services across the organisation to deliver a modern, forward-thinking treasury management service. You will help shape the future direction of Finance, drive continuous improvement, and support the Council in meeting both today's challenges and tomorrow's opportunities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
