We are proud to be exclusively recruiting for a leading higher education organisation in East Midlands to appoint an experienced Treasury Manager to take ownership of its treasury function and play a key role in shaping its financial strategy.
This is an excellent opportunity for a treasury professional who wants to move beyond the day to day management of cash and banking and take ownership of debt, investments, banking relationships, cash forecasting and treasury improvements.
Reporting into the senior finance leadership team, you’ll manage a small treasury team and work closely with senior stakeholders across Finance and the wider organisation. You’ll also have significant exposure to external banking, lending and investment partners.
The role
The organisation currently has significant debt facilities alongside a strong balance sheet and is entering an exciting period of activity across its treasury function. This includes the ongoing review and renegotiation of its revolving credit facility, further investment activity and opportunities to improve how cash, debt and investments are managed.
You’ll become the key owner of the organisation’s Treasury Committee, currently chaired by the CFO, providing analysis, recommendations and strategic insight to support decision making. Alongside the strategic elements, you’ll oversee the effective running of the day to day treasury operation, ensuring robust cash management, forecasting, controls and reporting.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Taking ownership of the organisation’s treasury strategy, including cash, banking, debt and investments.
- Managing relationships with banks, lenders, investment managers and other external financial partners.
- Leading the ongoing renegotiation and management of banking facilities, including the organisation’s RCF.
- Managing a significant debt portfolio and supporting future borrowing requirements.
- Overseeing and developing the organisation’s investment strategy, including reviewing investment opportunities and investment policies.
- Managing relationships with investment fund managers and supporting procurement and renegotiation of investment management services.
- Owning and leading the Treasury Committee, preparing papers, analysis and recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Providing robust cashflow forecasting and forward planning, including analysis of trends, variances and scenarios.
- Overseeing bank account management, cash positioning and banking administration.
- Ensuring excess cash is managed effectively and opportunities around deposits and investment are identified.
- Providing commercial insight into interest rates, funding markets and wider treasury developments.
- Overseeing bank and investment reconciliations and ensuring strong financial controls.
- Monitoring debt covenants and ensuring compliance with lending agreements.
- Working with colleagues across Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable to identify opportunities to improve cash management and working capital.
- Supporting financial reporting, audit and regulatory requirements relating to cash, debt and investments.
- Identifying opportunities to improve treasury processes, systems, controls and reporting.
- Leading, coaching and developing a small team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
