Job Description

Wastewater Treatment Manager

Permanent – 37 hours per week

Location: Washington

Salary: circa £65,000

About The Role

We’ve an amazing opportunity to join us as our Wastewater Treatment Works Manager within our Wastewater Treatment & Bioresources Team here at Northumbrian Water. Internally this role is known as Treatment Works Manager. This role has responsibility for managing the operation of Derwent Valley Wastewater Treatment Works, Pumping Stations and associated assets.

The successful candidate will lead and motivate our operational teams to robustly manage the operation of people, process, and our assets, where as a leader you will have the opportunity to join a team that delivers our high standards.

You’ll be leading and supporting our treatment works teams, developing a culture of empowerment, mutual trust, and inclusion. This includes managing resources to ensure that the teams receive the level of training and support to develop.

This role requires a technical understanding of process information to support decision making within the team. The overall focus is to manage, maintain and improve our water recycling treatment processes.

This is a rewarding role that will see you take responsibility for protecting our environment through ensuring compliance with Wastewater & Environmental Quality standards. This means you will develop your knowledge on our regulatory commitments which will ensure we deliver the best environmental performance.

You’ll be maintaining agreed serviceability and condition of asset base in the area, along with operating and maintaining assets within the unit to achieve specified unit targets within agreed timescales (outputs, utilisation, quality compliance, unit costs).

You’ll work with the treatment teams to ensure understanding and alignment with NWL’s medium term goals and values, along with instilling a real time performance culture in treatment teams with focus on rapid resolution of issues impacting on health and safety, wastewater quality and quantity, environmental performance, and cost.

About You

This role will have responsibility for ensuring financial objectives are achieved or surpassed. You will have budget management responsibility and the expectation to identify opportunities for efficiencies. This means you will also have proven understanding of financial processes and systems relating to capital and revenue.

We’re looking for the successful candidate to have experience, knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks. This will help our contribution to a fair and ethical operation which protects our customers.

Building effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders is an important part of this role, as well as being effective at appropriately challenging existing practices.

The successful candidate will demonstrate transferrable industry knowledge as we will provide you with the training and development to excel in the water industry.

This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.

Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.

Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked

Please note this role will require a DBS to be completed prior to employment
