- Undertaking tree inspections, surveys and condition assessments across a wide range of location types such as highways, Parks, River Valleys, Housing and open land.
- Identifying and specifying arboricultural works in accordance with industry best practice and relevant legislation.
- Providing advice on all tree-related enquiries from residents, councillors, developers and other stakeholders.
- Investigating complaints, insurance claims and incidents involving trees.
- Monitoring contractor performance and ensuring works are completed to the required specification and quality standards.
- Providing arboricultural advice on planning applications and development proposals that may affect trees.
- Contributing to the delivery of Manchester's Tree Strategy and wider environmental objectives.
- Maintaining accurate records using GIS and tree management software, preferably some knowledge of using Tree Plotter which is our current system of choice.
- Assisting with emergency responses relating to dangerous trees following severe weather events and other urgent situations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
