About the Role:

The City of Doncaster Council is a confident, ambitious organisation which puts improving the life of its residents at the centre of everything we do. You have an opportunity to be part of this in the role of Treescapes Agroforestry Officer.

This role will focus on agroforestry projects, delivering initiatives to support agricultural landowners in increasing tree cover such as hedgerows, shelterbelts, woodland creation and wider tree planting schemes to support the delivery of Doncaster’s “One Million Trees” challenge.

Duties Include:

  • Build strong working relationships with landowners and provide professional advice on tree planting opportunities
  • Conduct site visits and surveys to support stakeholders with developing agroforestry plans
  • Source external funding for agroforestry schemes and assist stakeholders with grant applications as required
  • Attend events, talks and shows to promote the agroforestry offer across Doncaster and wider region
  • Assist in developing a Trees, Woodland and Hedgerow Strategy for Doncaster

This post is a two-year contract and is part-funded by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority.

Key Requirements:

  • Significant experience of delivering agroforestry schemes, including establishment, early management and application of agroforestry principles
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong, effective working relationships with both internal teams and external partners
  • Well-organised, adaptable, and able to manage your workload confidently and autonomously on your own initiative, as well as working as part of a team
  • Strong farming background and/or significant knowledge and experience of directly working with agricultural landowners within the UK are strongly desired

Job Details:

The post will be part of a strong and supportive team within Environmental Sustainability (ES), working within the Natural Environment (NE) team based at the Civic Office. The ES-NE is responsible for co-ordinating and driving activities to support carbon reduction and nature recovery across the city, in line with Doncaster’s Environment and Sustainability strategy. You will be joining a well-regarded treescapes team that encourages innovative and creative thinking. A positive and proactive work environment is promoted, with regular feedback, recognition and development opportunities.
