Job Description

The Trenchless Operations Manager

The Trenchless Operations Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and high-quality delivery of trenchless activities across PSS operations. The role ensures projects are delivered in line with programmed requirements, customer expectations, quality standards and financial targets while maintaining full compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation.

The role provides leadership to operational teams, supervisors and subcontractors, drives continuous improvement in productivity and performance, and promotes a culture of safety, accountability and excellence.

The role reports to the Head of Trenchless

Operational Management

  • Lead all trenchless operations activities to ensure safe, compliant and efficient project delivery.
  • Manage operational teams, supervisors and subcontractors to achieve programme, quality and financial objectives.
  • Allocate labour, plant, materials and subcontract resources effectively to maximise productivity.
  • Monitor operational performance and implement corrective actions where required.
  • Ensure work is delivered to agreed specifications, standards and customer requirements.
  • Work closely with other Service Line Managers and support functions to ensure integrated delivery across the business.

Leadership and People Management

  • Lead, motivate and develop operational teams to achieve high levels of performance and engagement.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and development discussions with direct reports.
  • Promote a positive culture aligned with company values and behaviours.

Commercial Management

  • Manage operational budgets and support achievement of financial performance targets.
  • Monitor project costs, productivity and resource utilisation.
  • Work alongside commercial teams to maximise operational efficiency and profitability.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality

  • Demonstrate visible leadership and commitment to health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture and support continuous improvement in health, safety and environmental performance.
  • Ensure accidents, incidents, near misses and service strikes are reported, investigated and appropriate actions implemented.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Significant experience within trenchless, CIPP and drainage infrastructure operations; SMSTS certification; NRSWA Supervisor qualification; Full UK driving licence.
  • Extensive experience in trenchless/CIPP projects and Proactive Parcels management.
  • Computer literate, with keyboard skills and experience of word processing and operation and use of spreadsheets.
  • Driving Licence (valid for UK) (clean desirable).

Desirable:

  • Experience managing Proactive Parcels programmes; experience within the UK water industry; NEBOSH or IOSH qualification.
  • EUSR SHEA (Water or other utility), Knowledge of CDM regulations and obligations.
