Are you an experienced homelessness prevention professional with a proven track record of successfully preventing and relieving homelessness in a busy frontline local authority environment?

Bromley Council is seeking an experienced Triage & Prevention Officer to join its Housing Service, delivering high-quality housing advice, assessment and homelessness prevention interventions. This role is ideal for a housing professional who has extensive experience working with vulnerable households, making statutory homelessness decisions, negotiating successful prevention outcomes and managing complex cases.

We are looking for someone with significant experience of homelessness prevention, housing options, statutory assessments and partnership working who can confidently manage a demanding caseload and achieve positive outcomes for residents at risk of homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for households who are homeless or threatened with homelessness.
• Conduct comprehensive assessments and determine duties owed under homelessness legislation.
• Deliver effective prevention and relief interventions to avoid homelessness and reduce the use of temporary accommodation.
• Develop and manage Personal Housing Plans, ensuring customers receive tailored advice and support.
• Negotiate with landlords, letting agents, lenders, family members and other stakeholders to secure sustainable housing solutions.
• Assess suitability and affordability of private rented accommodation and support access to housing options.
• Work collaboratively with internal and external partners to support vulnerable households and those with complex needs.
• Prepare legally robust decision letters, reports and case records in line with legislation and best practice.
• Represent customers at court, tribunals and multi-agency meetings where required.
• Manage prevention budgets, grants and financial assistance schemes responsibly and effectively.
