An opportunity to work at Barts Heart and Thorax Centre, the largest Cardiothoracic Centre in Europe. The service would like to appoint proactive and highly-motivated individuals to join the complex tertiary service provided by Cardiothoracic Surgery. Applicants will need to have a broad experience in ward-based medical work.

Role Description

The appointee will be mainly managing the care of adult cardiac and thoracic patients on the ward, will have time in theatre and will also have the opportunity to develop a research and audit portfolio. There is a consultant-led ward round every morning attended by Senior Fellow, Junior Fellow, Nursing staff, and Pharmacists. There will be opportunities to undertake a wide range of procedures, e.g., pleural drainage. You will work within a team of 11 Junior Fellows and one nurse practitioner.

Application Information

Please be advised that the vacancy advertisement may close early if a sufficient number of applications are received, therefore, we recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Post Details

Clinical fellow posts are available for six months. The post holders will join a team of 11 SHOs on a 1a banded rota. Duties will primarily be on the surgical wards, but the rota has been configured to allow equitable access to theatre and also the opportunity to enhance their portfolio. The post holder will work closely with his/her SHO colleagues as well as cardiothoracic surgery registrars and the ITU team.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
