Job Overview

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
- Work a full shift rota in General Surgery on a 1:11 rota.
- Work across all teams within Surgery on a rotational basis.
- Assist the Specialist Registrar in the treatment of all cases under their care.
- Support the surgical resident doctors in the ward care of inpatients.
- Visit all patients under their care every morning (except weekends when not on call) and make such additional visits to particular patients as requested by the FY1 doctors or Ward Staff.
- When on call, be responsible for the supervision of the FY1 doctors and for the care of all surgical patients on the Wards.
- Accompany the Consultants on their ward rounds and attend outpatient clinics and operating lists.
- Perform minor operations and assist with major operations depending on competencies.
- Ensure completion of a discharge summary for each patient leaving hospital.
- Contribute to the teaching of medical students and resident doctors.
- Familiarise themselves with their responsibilities in respect of the mobilisation of hospital resources in the event of a major disaster/incident.
- Obey the general rules for junior medical staff and follow instructions issued by the Trust Board through the Medical Staff Committee.
