About the Department
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is part of the FDC Family diagnostics and Community division. It consists of an integral maternity and gynaecology unit on a single site based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Inpatients are based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, while clinics are held at Princess Alexandra Hospital, St Margaret’s Hospital (Epping) and Herts & Essex Hospital, (Bishop’s Stortford), as well as other outreach centres.
Job Description
This role is for a Middle Grade Doctor (senior clinical Fellow) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. There are one full-time and one 0.9 whole time equivalent, fixed-term appointments with a 1:8 middle grade rota covering Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
While this is not a training post, we provide ample opportunities to develop your expertise in all areas of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Enjoy a friendly and collaborative workplace where your contributions are valued.

We are looking for keen, enthusiastic candidates, committed to delivering outstanding care. The successful candidate will participate in the day to day running of the obstetrics and gynaecology department. They will participate in the obstetrics and gynaecology on call rota which covers nights, weekends and long days. There are opportunities for assistance with postgraduate exams (MRCOG part 2, 3) as well as accessing higher level training such as ATSMs /SITMs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate on a full time Middle grade Registrar 2 Tier rota 1/8 on call which is EWTD compliant.
- Cover includes long days, weekends and nights.
- Work as a member of the Multi-Disciplinary Team.
- Communicate with Consultants, Ward Managers, Nurses and other professions both hospital and community-based, in order to facilitate the management of patients and maintain a high standard of service and continuity of care.
- Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients and the efficient running of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology department.
- Ensure that up-to-date, accurate, legible and comprehensive signed notes are recorded in the patient’s case notes and electronic health records HER.
- Gynaecology theatre sessions.
- Specialist Gynaecological clinics & High risk pregnancy Clinics.
- Participation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology emergency care.
- To participate in the department’s teaching, audit, and educational activities.
- Day to day running of the emergency Gynaecology, labour ward, obstetric wards, antenatal clinics.
