Age UK Islington is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help shape the future of our charity.
We are particularly interested in people who can bring expertise and experience in one or more of these areas:
- Digital Transformation – including cybersecurity and AI
- Finance & Investments
- Fundraising & Income Generation
- NHS / Health & Social Care leadership
This is an exciting time to join the charity, with a new CEO in post and ambitious plans to expand our impact during a period of significant external changes. Our services are performing strongly and we are fortunate to be in a position of relative financial stability, so we are well positioned for growth and innovation.
You don’t need previous trustee or governance experience. We’re interested in the skills, experience and perspective you can bring and a full induction and training programme will be provided.
About Age UK Islington
Age UK Islington is an independent charity operating within the Age UK national network.
We support adults of all ages and unpaid carers across Islington to improve or maintain their health, wellbeing, connections and independence. While the prime beneficiaries of our services are over 55, we also support an increasing number of younger people.
Our work focuses on prevention, early intervention and person-centred care – helping people identify and address problems before they become crises.
Our services include navigation, befriending, social prescribing, frailty support and a one-stop-shop helpline. We are also Islington Council's lead partner supporting unpaid carers through our Hub contract.

Alongside our Board of Trustees, we have approximately 40 staff and 70 volunteers.
What you'll do
As a Trustee, you'll work collectively with other Board members to provide strategic leadership, governance and oversight.
You'll help ensure Age UK Islington pursues its charitable purposes effectively, remains financially sustainable and meets its legal and regulatory responsibilities.
You'll safeguard the charity's assets, reputation and beneficiaries, while supporting and constructively challenging the executive team.
You'll contribute to strategic direction and organisational priorities; oversee financial sustainability, performance and key risks; support and constructively challenge the CEO; contribute to Board and committee discussions and decisions; and use your expertise, knowledge and contacts to further Age UK Islington's work.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for people who will bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment and broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board.
You'll be able to think strategically, exercise sound independent judgement, work collaboratively and ask constructive questions. You'll also share our commitment to good governance, accountability, equity, diversity and inclusion.
We particularly welcome applications from people who live, work, volunteer or have strong community connections in Islington.

Commitment
This is a voluntary role, with extraordinary expenses paid.
The estimated commitment is:
- Main Board: approximately 3 hours per month, including preparation
- Sub-committee, if applicable: approximately 3 hours per month
- Away days/client events: 2 days per year
- Plus: occasional support for projects and working groups
Board meetings take place in person every two months. Committees meet every two to four months, usually online.
Trustees are elected for a three-year term, with maximum service of nine years.
