The Helen Bamber Foundation is recruiting a Trustee and Chair of the Finance and Fundraising Committee
Join our Board to help oversee financial governance, support strategic decision-making and strengthen our work with survivors of trafficking, torture and human cruelty.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who combines strong senior-level financial expertise with strategic judgement and a commitment to the Helen Bamber Foundation’s values.
The most important requirement is substantial financial leadership experience. We are seeking a qualified accountant (ACA or equivalent) with a proven record of significant achievement as a Finance Director, senior financial leader, or partner in a large audit or accountancy firm. Experience of treasury, risk and reserves management, audit and wider corporate governance responsibilities is particularly important. Previous experience of operating at Board level in a charitable, public sector or commercial organisation would also be valuable.
The successful candidate should be able to interpret complex financial information, identify key risks and opportunities, and communicate these clearly to fellow trustees. They will need to bring sound independent judgement, think strategically and work constructively as part of a small Board, while offering appropriate challenge and support to the Executive Team.

As Chair of the Finance and Fundraising Committee, they should also be comfortable leading discussions, helping the committee focus on the most important financial and fundraising issues, and supporting effective decision-making across the organisation.

What will you be doing?
We are seeking a Trustee and Chair of the Finance and Fundraising Committee to join the Helen Bamber Foundation Board, replacing the current postholder who is retiring.
Our Board provides strategic oversight of the Foundation and includes Board Advisors with lived experience, helping to ensure survivors’ voices inform our governance. It is supported by a committee structure covering Finance and Fundraising, People and Governance, and Clinical Governance, Client Services and Safeguarding.

This is an important time to join us. The Foundation is continuing to grow its impact and strengthen its services while operating in a challenging and evolving environment. Our current strategy focuses on increasing the number of people in need of protection in the UK who obtain safety and are treated fairly and with dignity, including through improving support, strengthening collaboration, challenging harmful systems and transforming access to legal support. As we pursue these ambitions, strong financial oversight is essential to ensuring that growth remains sustainable and that our resources are used effectively.
The new Trustee will provide particular oversight of the Foundation’s financial health and fundraising, working closely with the CEO, Director of Finance and Governance, Group Director of Fundraising and fellow trustees. They will chair the Finance and Fundraising Committee, which meets between quarterly Board meetings, and will play a central role in ensuring the Board has the information it needs to make well-informed strategic decisions.
Specific responsibilities include overseeing the financial model underpinning our strategy; reviewing and recommending annual budgets; reviewing management accounts, forecasts and financial policies; overseeing financial risk, reserves and audit arrangements; managing the relationship with external auditors; and overseeing the development and delivery of our fundraising and supporter engagement strategy.
