Community Futures
Community Futures is the Rural Community Council for Lancashire, an established rural community development and early years charity. We're seeking a Trustee with Legal and Compliance experience to help protect our organisation, our staff and the community we serve.

The purpose of the charity, as stated in the governing document, is to 'Promote any charitable purposes for the benefit of the communities in the County of Lancashire and elsewhere (hereinafter called the area of benefit) primarily but not exclusively by the advancement of education, research, development and training, the protection and enhancement of the environment, the preservation of good health, the relief of sickness and relief of those in necessitous circumstances.'

What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Trustee to join our Board, that has:
- Significant experience as a trustee, board member, or governance professional, with a strong understanding of charity governance and strategic oversight responsibilities
- A professional background as a solicitor, barrister, corporate lawyer, chartered secretary (CGI), or senior compliance/HR executive
- Strong knowledge of governance frameworks and risk mitigation strategies
- Confidence to provide strategic challenge and guidance at governance level
What you’ll do
- Provide guidance to the board and ensuring compliance with appropriate regulatory bodies.
- Review institutional risks, including safeguarding policies, data protection (GDPR), and employment law frameworks
- Provide strategic oversight contracts, service level agreements (SLA’s) and property leases for our community spaces

What will you be doing?
As a trustee, you'll have an essential role in contributing towards the future direction of Community Futures and making a real difference to rural communities, local organisations, and county-wide priorities to promote equitable access to services.
Operating a rural charity means navigating unique legal landscapes – from managing physical community assets and lease agreements to overseeing highly regulated Ofsted early years provisions. While legal and compliance knowledge is important, we are particularly looking for someone who understands the role of governance in a charity setting and can provide strategic advice and oversight at trustee level.
Your role will be strictly strategic. You will act as the Board’s expert voice on legal risk, compliance, and regulatory frameworks, ensuring our charity always operates safely, ethically, and within the law.
