About DAFS
Drug and Alcohol Family Support (DAFS) is a small, grass roots, not for profit volunteer led charity which is dedicated to supporting families affected by addiction, a challenge that transcends communities and impacts one in five families. It does not discriminate between age, gender, socio-economic background or cultural beliefs. It can affect ANY family.
With a team of volunteers who have lived experience, DAFS provides a confidential, and non-judgemental SAFE SPACE for families to connect, receive emotional support, and develop coping strategies.
Based in Milton Keynes, Bedford, and Leighton Buzzard, DAFS offers in-person and online support, including services for those grieving the loss of loved ones to addiction.
The organisation focuses on empowering families with the tools and understanding needed to regain control, rebuild their lives, and foster hope in the face of adversity.
Support for families is seen as an essential part of the recovery journey, benefiting both individuals with addiction and their loved ones.

Role Description
This is a part-time remote role for a Trustee at DAFS. Trustees will support the organisation by providing governance, strategic direction, and ensuring compliance with legal and financial obligations to deliver the greatest possible impact for its beneficiaries.
This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute your skills and experience while adding value to a neglected and often invisible sector of our society.
Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to setting and reviewing the charity’s strategy and goals
- Ensure good governance, financial oversight and legal compliance
- Monitor performance and impact against agreed objectives
- Act in the best interests of the charity and its beneficiaries at all times
- Support and appropriately challenge where necessary
- Act as an ambassador for the charity
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and are particularly keen to hear from those with experience ideally in one of the following disciplines: Fundraising/Income generation; Business Administration: Finance; Mental Health; IT.

Lived experience is welcomed but not necessary but we do expect an understanding and empathy for our cause and our beneficiary base.
Previous trustee experience is not necessary. More important are sound judgement, integrity, commitment to our mission, and the ability to work collaboratively.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 4 board meetings per year (usually at weekends)
- Occasional involvement in sub‑groups or events
- Meetings are usually held in person
