Salford Pride Board of Trustees
Salford Pride is looking for new Trustees to join our Board and help guide the charity through its next chapter.
We're a registered, volunteer-led charity best known for delivering The Pink Picnic, Salford's annual Pride celebration. Alongside this, we run events, projects and community initiatives throughout the year that celebrate, support and advocate for LGBTQ+ people across Salford. As we continue to grow, we're looking for people who can bring their professional skills, experience and fresh ideas to our Board.
We're currently recruiting for Trustees with experience in one of the following areas:
Trustee (Events & Projects) – Planning and delivering large-scale events or managing projects from start to finish.
What does a Trustee do?
Our Trustees are responsible for the overall leadership and governance of Salford Pride. Together, the Board sets the charity's strategic direction, makes sure we're meeting our legal and financial responsibilities, and helps ensure we're delivering the greatest possible impact for our community.
Because we're a small charity, this isn't a role where you simply attend meetings and make decisions. Our Trustees are actively involved, working closely with our volunteer committee to support the organisation and help overcome challenges as they arise.
Most of the role can be carried out from home, but Trustees are expected to attend two in-person meetings per month in Salford, along with occasional events throughout the year.
The time commitment is around 6 to 8 hours per week, and we're looking for people who can commit to the role for at least 12 months.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Board of Trustees with the planning, development and delivery of Salford Pride’s regular, one-off and flagship events and projects.
- Provide hands-on support before, during and after events, including event set-up, delivery, close-down, troubleshooting and attendee support where required.
- Manage, support and motivate the Events & Projects Team volunteers, fostering a collaborative, inclusive and supportive team culture.
- Oversee volunteers in developing innovative event concepts, ideas and proposals for Board review and approval.
- Support the recruitment, induction, development and retention of Events & Projects volunteers, while monitoring volunteer workload and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with Trustees and other volunteer teams, sharing workload and stepping in to support operational delivery where capacity requires it.
- Ensure appropriate health and safety, safeguarding, accessibility, risk management and contingency arrangements are in place for events and projects, working closely with the Chair and other Trustees.
- Support safeguarding arrangements for attendees, volunteers, performers, contractors and participants, including consideration of children, young people and vulnerable adults where applicable.
- Champion Salford Pride’s values of diversity, equality, equity and inclusion, ensuring events are accessible and inclusive to the wider LGBTQ+ community.
- Coordinate with Marketing, Fundraising and Communications to maximise engagement, attendance and community impact.
- Act as a point of contact for sponsors, partners, venues, performers, suppliers and contractors, supporting relationship management and appropriate due diligence.
- Consider reputational risks associated with sponsors, partners and event participants, escalating concerns to the Board where appropriate.
- Monitor event and project budgets and resource allocation, working with the Treasurer and Chair to ensure appropriate financial controls and approvals.
- Ensure relevant policies, legal requirements, insurance, licensing, data protection, safeguarding and health and safety requirements are appropriately considered.
- Provide regular reports to the Board on progress, budgets, risks, challenges, decisions required and outcomes.
- Maintain appropriate records including proposals, approvals, risk assessments, contracts, incidents, budgets and evaluations.
- Support emergency and contingency arrangements and assist the Chair and Board in responding to significant incidents, complaints, cancellations or emergencies.
- Facilitate post-event reviews, feedback and impact reporting to identify learning and improve future events and projects.
- Ensure events and projects support Salford Pride’s charitable objectives and deliver meaningful community benefit.
- Ensure major events, significant sponsorship agreements and major project plans are presented to the Board for appropriate review and approval before execution.
- Contribute to the wider workload of Salford Pride, recognising that Trustees may need to assist outside their primary area of responsibility when the needs of the charity require it.
- Work collectively with the Board to ensure decisions are made in the best interests of Salford Pride, its beneficiaries, volunteers and the wider community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
