Join Link Learning Communities as a trustee and help shape the next stage of our growth, expanding opportunities for children and young people to take part in high-quality arts, music and creative learning across Sheffield.
What difference will you make?
As Link Learning Communities grows, a broader Board will give us greater capacity to think strategically, challenge our assumptions and make good decisions about where we focus our resources. New trustees will bring perspectives and experience that complement those already within the organisation and help us identify opportunities we might otherwise miss.
Your contribution could help us develop stronger partnerships, secure resources for new projects, improve the way we work, strengthen our governance, or help a successful programme reach many more children.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people who share our belief in the value of creativity, education and widening opportunities for children and young people.
We are recruiting several trustees and do not expect any one person to bring all the skills or experience listed below. We are particularly interested in building a Board whose members bring different perspectives and complementary strengths.
Experience in any of the following areas would be valuable:
- Education, schools or children's services
- Arts, music, culture or the creative industries
- Community development or the voluntary sector
- Finance, accounting or financial management
- Fundraising, grants or income generation
- Strategic planning and organisational growth
- Partnerships, networking or business development
- HR, people management or organisational development
- Safeguarding
- Marketing, communications or digital

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Trustees should be able to think strategically rather than becoming involved in the day-to-day management of the organisation.
Previous trustee or board experience is not essential. We would be very happy to hear from someone considering their first trustee position who has relevant experience from their career, community involvement or other areas of their life.
Above all, we are looking for people who are excited by what Link Learning Communities is trying to achieve and who want to play an active role in helping us develop the organisation and increase the opportunities available to children and young people.

Our trustees will work alongside our existing Board and senior team to help shape the next stage of Link Learning Communities' development. This can include contributing to strategic planning, helping us think through opportunities and challenges, and ensuring that our growth remains sustainable and focused on creating meaningful opportunities for children and young people.
We are deliberately keeping this recruitment broad. We're interested in speaking to people with different professional backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.
There are some areas in particular we are looking for help in. These include developing new partnerships with schools and cultural organisations; growing our community and creative programmes; strengthening our long-term financial sustainability; developing new funded projects; and considering how successful projects can grow.
Trustees will have the opportunity to contribute to these discussions from the outset rather than joining simply to oversee an established programme of work.
There are no specific committee or officer responsibilities attached to this vacancy, although these may develop depending on the interests and experience of the people who join us.
