EYC is looking for members to join our welcoming Board of Directors, to lead and support our charity in its commitment to providing a first class respite service to Young Carers in Edinburgh.
It is a rewarding role with the opportunity to make a real difference in young carers' lives.
What difference will you make?
We have just launched our new 5-year Strategy which we believe is strong, ambitious and reflective of our core aim of providing excellent support services to, raising awareness of, and advocating for young carers in Edinburgh.
To help us achieve our goals, we are seeking Trustees with knowledge or experience in some key specialisms that we are currently lacking: social work, I.T., business and commerce, substance use, child protection, marketing and those with direct experience of being a young carer or young adult carer - either presently, or in the past. We will also actively consider anyone with relevant skills in other disciplines.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who can provide a commitment in supporting the delivery of a high-quality service to young carers. The principal areas of specialism we are currently seeking are those with knowledge or experience in social work, I.T., business and commerce, substance use, child protection, marketing and those with direct experience of being a young carer or young adult carer - either presently, or in the past. We will also actively consider anyone with relevant skills in other disciplines.

Qualities of a Trustee/Director
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of Trustee/Directorship.
- Commitment to the Charity’s objectives, aims and values, and willingness to devote time to carry out responsibilities.
- Strategic and forward-looking vision in relation to the Charity’s objectives and aims.
- Good, independent judgement, political impartiality and the ability to think creatively in the context of the Charity and external environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to respect the confidences of colleagues.
- Balancing tact and diplomacy with willingness to challenge and constructively criticise.

What will you be doing?
We have a team of six knowledgeable, friendly Trustees with wide-ranging skills and experience - primarily in the areas of education, finance, HR and the charitable and public sectors. We're looking for at least two new Board Members to contribute to the good, strong governance of our charity and help lead us forward in an often-challenging financial landscape within the Charity Sector.

We value each Trustee's unique perspective and ideas, and there are always opportunities to put forward or join sub-committees; liaising with other Board Members, the Senior Leadership Team and directly with staff - and sometimes young carers themselves.
We know from experience that Trustees' contributions can make all the difference in supporting our service to be the best it can be - with integrity, insight and a real commitment to improving the lives of young carers. We believe that the best way to achieve this is through recruiting Trustees with a wide variety of experience and knowledge, who can bring something new, different or forgotten to the table; perhaps help us to think about things in a different way and challenge the status quo, or call on their past experience to generate meaningful change and positive outcomes for the young people we support.
Whether skilled in a particular discipline that we don't currently have, able to bring about new connections and useful partnerships or especially good at spotting potential challenges or opportunities on the horizon, we know that Trustees can make a significant positive difference when working alongside the rest of our team and Board - and seeing the results of the impact these efforts make can be truly, and deeply, rewarding.
