Become a Trustee at Worthing Samaritans
Do you believe no one should face things alone? As a Trustee, your leadership can help ensure our branch can continue to provide emotional support for everyone who needs it. Samaritans is an organisation providing vital emotional support to people in distress or at risk of suicide, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Worthing Samaritans is a dedicated branch of the organisation providing both phone and online support across a range of the day and night. Our branch has approximately 125 local volunteers and is overseen by a committed Board of Trustees.
We are looking for new Trustees with diverse skills and fresh perspectives to help guide our charity and ensure we continue to serve our community effectively.
We welcome applicants of all backgrounds who share our commitment to reducing suicide and supporting people in emotional distress. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates who can offer experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Retail – to support and guide our charity shop operations and develop our retail strategy
- Fundraising – to help develop and grow our income generation across the branch

Time commitment:
Approximately 8-10 hours per month on average, including attendance at six-weekly meetings, and occasional events.
Location:
Primarily Worthing-based; meetings are held at our branch in Lennox Road, Worthing or via video conferencing.
What you’ll do as a Trustee:
- Ensure good governance of Worthing Samaritans in line with charity law and Samaritans’ policies
- Set the branch’s strategic direction alongside fellow Trustees and the Branch Director
- Oversee financial health and sustainability
- Support and challenge the leadership team, bringing your professional skills and experience
- Be an ambassador for Worthing Samaritans within the local community
