About the Opportunity

Derry Theatre Trust, operating as the Millennium Forum, is seeking to appoint a number of new Trustees to join its Board and help guide one of Ireland's leading cultural organisations.

The Impact

The Millennium Forum plays a vital role in the cultural, social and economic life of the North West, presenting world-class entertainment, supporting local artistic talent, engaging communities, and contributing significantly to the region's tourism and visitor economy.

Our Vision

As we continue to develop our ambitions and strengthen our impact, we are looking to broaden the skills and experience represented on our Board.

Areas of Expertise

We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Finance, accountancy or audit
  • Legal and governance
  • Human resources and organisational development
  • Commercial business development and entrepreneurship
  • Marketing, communications and audience development
  • Digital innovation, AI and technology
  • Property, facilities or capital project management
  • Fundraising, sponsorship and philanthropy
  • Education, community engagement and social inclusion
  • Arts, culture, tourism or the creative industries
  • Environmental sustainability and ESG
  • Public affairs, policy or strategic leadership

About the Role

Trustees provide strategic leadership, oversight and governance, ensuring that the organisation fulfils its charitable objectives, remains financially sustainable and continues to deliver public benefit through arts, culture and community engagement.

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend regular Board meetings and committee meetings as required
  • Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making
  • Support good governance and effective risk management
  • Act as ambassadors for the Millennium Forum and its mission
  • Bring independent judgement, constructive challenge and specialist expertise

We welcome applications from individuals from all backgrounds and sectors. Previous trustee experience is not essential. We are committed to creating a diverse Board that reflects the communities we serve and strongly encourage applications from people who can bring different perspectives, lived experiences and professional expertise.

Time Commitment

The Board typically meets up to six times each year, with additional committee meetings and occasional attendance at events. Trustee positions are voluntary and unpaid; however, reasonable expenses may be reimbursed in accordance with organisational policy.

Next Steps

It is envisaged that four positions, including that of Chairperson, will be filled over the next 9 + months. Successful applicants will join the board on a phased approach from November 2026.
