Huddersfield Mission Trustee Recruitment
Huddersfield Mission is seeking new trustees to shape our vision, strategy, and offer constructive feedback. We are particularly keen to welcome individuals with lived or professional experience in homelessness, mental health, or poverty to join our Board.
What difference will you make?
As a trustee bringing lived or professional experience, or communications expertise, you will help our Board ensure that our plans deliver maximum benefit for both our community and the Mission itself.
Since COVID, we have renewed and refreshed our governance arrangements, policies, and procedures. We have also established clear core aspirations that unite our values with our ambitions—including being a questioning and learning organisation and a justice-seeking one. This mindset ensures we focus not only on immediate crisis support, but also on tackling deeper community and systemic issues.
You would join us at an exciting time as we build on these strong foundations to expand our reach and launch new initiatives.
Your impact as a trustee will directly shape our work through
- Boosting sustainability: Growing our fundraising, donations, café income, and venue hires to ensure our long-term independence and growth.
- Enhancing quality: Supporting our well-respected advice service toward achieving a recognized Quality Mark or delivering targeted specialist projects.
- Expanding our reach: Exploring innovative solutions, such as a small-scale housing project, to address root-cause issues.
- Building connections: Helping us develop strong local partnerships to widen our impact across Huddersfield.

What are we looking for?
We welcome applications from anyone interested in furthering the work of the Mission. More specifically we have identified the following gaps:
- Lived or professional experience of homelessness, mental health issues, poverty or addiction.
- Professional experience of advice, information and guidance.
- Communications and Marketing.
What will you be doing?
As a trustee of Huddersfield Mission, you will help us translate our vision—Serving People, Changing Lives—into real action that makes a lasting difference for local people, many of whom face multiple and complex needs.
Following several years of dedicated service, a number of our long-standing board members have recently stepped down. This opens up a fantastic opportunity to refresh and diversify our governance. Our remaining board brings strong community ties and charity governance experience, but we are looking for fresh perspectives, lived experience, and external expertise—particularly in income generation, communications, advice, housing, or mental health—to help guide the Mission into its next chapter.

While our advice service is securely funded in the mid term, our biggest challenge is generating more sustainable income through our café, venue, and fundraising. To do this, we need trustees with skills around communications and business who also understand our charitable purpose.
Longer-term, our goal is to further expand our support into root-cause issues, such as specialist advice, housing options, health services, and wellbeing activities. As a trustee, you will play a key role in turning these ambitious plans into reality, with opportunities to join specific working groups such as Finance, HR, or Marketing & Communications.
As an independent charity rooted in Methodist values, we welcome trustees of all backgrounds and faiths (or none at all). You don’t need to be Methodist—simply aligned with our core purpose and passionate about helping people rebuild their lives.
