About the Role
We are seeking a new trustee or volunteer with HR experience to assist our trustees in recruiting and HR generally. We are a community hub in a historic Lambeth library building. A new trustee will, in addition to HR responsibilities, be involved generally.
What difference will you make?
You will fill a gap in our Board of Trustees and provide much-needed HR advice.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a trustee who lives within 2 miles of our building. We are a local charity and are looking for a trustee who knows the area.
We hope to find a trustee who has HR training and experience. We hold monthly meetings but expect a trustee to devote more time when necessary (for example, when recruiting). We also expect the trustee to be involved in other aspects of the hub.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The trustee will need to work collaboratively with the other trustees, who are different ages and from different backgrounds.
What will you be doing?
We are a board of trustees with a variety of skills and expertise managing a community hub. We are seeking to hire new staff, one funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and are looking for a trustee with HR expertise. HR issues will also come up from time to time. A new trustee will also be interested in all aspects of running a community hub in a historic building. We hire out our 4 rooms to a variety of clients. We have both a commercial and community rate and also donate space at no charge.

We work with the library which shares our building and have regular dealings with Lambeth Council who have leased the rooms to our trust. We are a community trust.
Trustees can be more or less involved with different aspects of managing the hub.
