CCS Adoption is seeking a dedicated and experienced Safeguarding Trustee to join our Board and provide independent oversight of safeguarding across our highly respected voluntary adoption agency.
As our Safeguarding Trustee, you will bring specialist safeguarding knowledge and strategic insight to help ensure we continue to meet the highest standards of child protection, governance, and compliance. Working alongside fellow trustees, our CEO, and Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will help champion a culture where children’s safety, welfare, and rights remain at the heart of everything we do.
About the Role
The Safeguarding Trustee provides independent advice, challenge, and assurance to the Board on all aspects of safeguarding practice. You’ll support effective governance by:
- Providing expert safeguarding guidance and insight.
- Reviewing safeguarding reports, trends, and risks.
- Ensuring safeguarding remains central to strategic planning and risk management.
- Supporting and constructively challenging senior leaders where appropriate.
- Monitoring compliance with safeguarding legislation, charity guidance, safer recruitment requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Promoting learning from safeguarding reviews, research, and best practice across the sector.

We’re Looking For Someone With:
- Significant professional safeguarding experience within children’s services, social work, health, education, inspection, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, statutory guidance, and current best practice.
- An understanding of adoption, trauma, and the needs of vulnerable children.
- The confidence to provide independent oversight and constructive challenge.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and advisory skills.
- A commitment to improving outcomes for children and families.
- Previous experience as a safeguarding lead, senior practitioner, manager, inspector, trustee, or governor would be advantageous.

Time Commitment
- Attendance at approximately four Board meetings per year.
- Periodic meetings with the CEO and Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Availability for occasional consultation on safeguarding matters.
- Additional involvement during safeguarding reviews when required.
