Summary Of STAND And The Role

STAND is an international development charity working across sub Saharan Africa to support people with limb loss through access to prosthetic legs and holistic care. As STAND continues to scale up its work across The Gambia and East Africa, this role offers a meaningful way to contribute to a values led organisation at an important stage of its development.

We are now looking for a Trustee Secretary to join our board and support the smooth, thoughtful, and well governed running of the organisation at board level. The role plays a key part in helping the Board function well. Working closely with the Chair, Treasurer, and Director, the Secretary helps ensure meetings are well organised, decisions are clearly recorded, actions are followed through, and the charity continues to meet its legal and governance responsibilities.

This is a steady, enabling role that suits someone who enjoys bringing structure, clarity, and follow through, and who values good governance as a foundation for impact.

What The Role Involves

  • Supporting the Chair with the preparation and smooth running of Trustee Board meetings and any sub committees.
  • Helping set agendas, track matters arising, and ensure actions and decisions are clearly recorded and followed up.
  • Ensuring accurate minutes are taken and stored securely, and are accessible to Trustees when needed.
  • Supporting good governance by helping the Board stay aware of its legal and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Working with the Treasurer to ensure required statutory filings and returns are completed.
  • Keeping key governance documents, policies, and trustee records up to date.
  • Managing agreed board correspondence and ensuring clear communication between meetings.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This role is well supported and designed to be manageable alongside other commitments. The Secretary works closely with the Chair and fellow Trustees and is not expected to be a legal expert, but to help ensure good processes are in place and followed.

Time commitment

The Board meets quarterly online. There is also an annual in person board day, usually held in Bristol. Between meetings, the Secretary supports light touch coordination and follow up as needed.

Trustees are appointed for an initial three year term, with the option to renew by mutual agreement. This is a voluntary role.

Due to UK charity law and regulatory requirements, this role is only open to applicants who are UK based.

We are particularly keen to hear from people who bring diversity of experience and background to our board, and who are motivated by values as much as vision.

To apply

Please submit a C.V. and supporting statement (maximum 2 sides of A4) that clearly outlines your suitability for the role against the criteria provided in the advert, including your interest and motivation in applying for this position.

When Applying, Please Can You

  • email your application to the Chair of Stand at Daniel@stand.ngo.
  • insert “Application: STAND – (role here)” into the subject field.
  • include your town/city you live, contact email and mobile.

You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt within 2-3 days.
