I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Based in Canterbury, Kent, the Trust provides archaeological services to commercial clients across southeast England. The organisation has a strong tradition of maximising the educational and public benefits of the projects it undertakes, engaging with bodies ranging from schools and universities to dementia cafes and groups representing local ethnic minorities. In recent years it has become particularly interested in reaching out to organisations and individuals that traditionally might have viewed archaeology as not relevant to them.

The Board of Trustees normally meets four times a year, in December, March, June and September. The September meeting is also the Annual General Meeting. Meetings are held in the Cathedral Lodge of Canterbury Cathedral, with information shared beforehand via a secure on-line portal. There is also a Trustee-only meeting and January and four Finance and Management sub-committee meetings. The role is voluntary and the only requirement is attendance at the Board Meetings.
