Our Trustees
Our trustees play a vital role in making sure that Central Women's Aid achieves its core purpose. They support the senior leadership team, working closely with our CEO to enable Central Women's Aid to grow and thrive, achieving safety for hundreds of women and children every year.
What difference will you make?
As a member of the Trustee board you will offer strategic leadership and support to help Nottingham Central Women's Aid continue to provide excellent support and services to women and children escaping or experiencing domestic abuse and violence.
What are we looking for?
We welcome applicants with any level of charity governance experience but would particularly welcome trustees with a background in:
- Legal
- Finance
- HR and policy
- Safeguarding

Our charity is a rapidly growing grassroots organisation. We have seen significant growth and changes over the past 12 months. Our charity has a board of trustees with a variety of skills and expertise.

We are seeking to recruit a new board member to complement the existing trustees' skills. This could be someone who has HR, legal or a safeguarding background. We hold monthly meetings but expect a trustee to devote more time when necessary (for example if there are HR issues). The trustee will need to work collaboratively with the other trustees and the senior leadership team.
The role of our trustees is to ensure that Nottingham Central Women’s Aid:
- complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
- pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
- are accountable and maintain proper financial control and use resources charitably
- set and maintain vision, mission and values
- develop and implement strategies, policies and regularly meet targets
Trustees will:
- work to support the operational management of the organisation
- safeguard and promote the good name and values of Nottingham Central Women’s Aid
- maintain effective board performance and efficient administration of the charity including funding, insurance and premises

In addition to the statutory duties, each trustee can use their specific skills, knowledge and experience to help the board reach sound decisions. These may involve scrutinising decisions, leading discussions, focusing on key issues, providing advice and guidance on new initiatives and any other issues as they arise.
What are we looking for?
Women only need apply - Genuine Occupational Requirement (Schedule 9; Equality Act 2010). The post is exempt under section 7 (2) (f) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975
Women aged 18 and over from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will be subject to a Disclosure & Barring Service Check. Knowledge of the Domestic abuse sector would be an advantage.
