Join Ignite Hubs as a trustee and help children and young people flourish through education. Use your expertise to shape our programmes, champion safeguarding and strengthen how we measure learning outcomes and impact.
What difference will you make?
Play a vital role in helping Ignite Hubs deliver high-quality, inclusive education to children and young people who need it most. We work particularly with girls, those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and those from underrepresented backgrounds. Your contribution directly supports educational equity and helps young people develop skills critical to future learning and opportunities.
What are we looking for?
The anticipated ongoing commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month. You may need additional time in the first couple of months to get to know the organisation, understand its priorities, and meet fellow trustees and relevant team members.
You will receive an induction, access to the Trustee Handbook and relevant organisational information, and introductions to fellow trustees and team members.

What will you be doing?
We are looking for an experienced professional with an educational background to join our Board of Trustees. This is a leadership role, and we are seeking a collaborative self-starter who takes initiative, asks questions, offers constructive challenge and takes ownership of progressing agreed priorities.
As a small and developing charity, we are looking for someone who will contribute actively between meetings, combining strategic guidance with practical, hands-on support within the agreed time commitment. This is an opportunity to help shape our work and see the difference your expertise and involvement make to the children and young people we support.

You will help shape our educational direction, strengthen safeguarding oversight and support the measurement and evaluation of our learning outcomes and wider impact.
What You Will Be Doing
Governance and Strategic Contribution
- Contribute to the effective governance of Ignite Hubs, ensuring the charity remains focused on its mission, charitable objectives and the interests of its beneficiaries.
- Help shape organisational priorities, bringing an educational perspective to decisions about programmes, resources and future development.
- Provide constructive support and challenge to the CEO and fellow trustees, sharing responsibility for financial oversight, risk management and accountability.
Education and Learning Expertise
- Provide strategic guidance on the quality, relevance and accessibility of our programmes and the Ignite Learning & Careers Hub.
- Help put ‘The Ignite Hubs Way’, our educational approach, into practice through learning that develops technical skills alongside confidence, creativity, communication and other transferable capabilities.
- Support relevant connections with schools, education organisations or research partners where these could strengthen our provision.

Safeguarding
- Champion safeguarding at Board level, helping ensure it is considered in organisational decisions, programme development and digital learning.
- Work with the CEO to review whether safeguarding policies, safer recruitment, training and reporting arrangements are effective in practice.
Learning Outcomes, Evaluation and Impact
- Help develop a practical, proportionate approach to measuring learning outcomes and the wider difference our programmes make.
- Support the identification of meaningful measures aligned with our intended outcomes Skills, Confidence, Connections and Aspirations.
- Review findings with the team and Board to identify improvements and support clear, evidence-based reporting to funders and supporters.
Board Participation and Collaboration
- Attend and actively contribute to quarterly Board meetings and the annual strategy workshop.
- Join optional monthly informal trustee catch-ups
- Take ownership of one or two agreed priorities between meetings, within your available time.
