Voices for Life is a music and wellbeing charity helping primary-aged children build confidence, wellbeing and belonging through singing. As we expand into new areas, we are seeking a Finance Trustee to help shape our financial strategy and support sustainable growth.
What difference will you make?
Voices for Life has grown significantly during its first five years, and we are now at a point where strong financial strategy will be increasingly important to our future development.
- The expertise of our new Finance Trustee will help us plan more strategically for sustainable growth.
- Their input will strengthen our financial planning, help us understand the resources needed to expand into new areas and enable the Board to make well-informed decisions about where and how we grow.
- They will also help us build greater financial resilience, ensuring that our ambitions are realistic and that we have the financial foundations needed to support the charity over the longer term.
Ultimately, this will help Voices for Life reach more children without compromising the quality and inclusivity of our work. Demand from schools is already greater than we can meet, and stronger financial expertise at Board level will help us turn that demand into sustainable opportunities for more children to experience high-quality music, develop their confidence and wellbeing, and discover the joy and sense of belonging that comes from singing together.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone with at least three years’ professional experience in finance, accountancy or financial management, who can bring financial expertise and strategic thinking to our Board. A recognised accountancy qualification would be particularly valuable.
- You will be confident interpreting financial information, budgets, forecasts and cash flow, identifying financial risks and helping others understand their implications.
- Experience of financial planning, controls and reporting will be important.
We are a small and collaborative organisation, so we are looking for someone who can combine appropriate financial oversight and constructive challenge with a practical and supportive approach. You will be comfortable working with fellow trustees, our Executive Director and Finance Lead, and able to communicate financial matters clearly to people without a finance background.
Most importantly, you will share our commitment to helping children develop their confidence, wellbeing and sense of belonging through music, and be excited by the opportunity to use your professional expertise to support the next stage of Voices for Life’s development.

What will you be doing?
Five years on from our founding, Voices for Life is at an exciting stage of its development. More than 5,000 children have taken part in our massed projects, and demand from schools is currently greater than we can meet. We now want to build on these strong foundations, reaching more children and expanding our work into neighbouring areas.

As a founder-led charity moving into its next stage of organisational development, we are looking for a Finance Trustee who can strengthen the financial expertise around our Board table and help us plan effectively for the future.
Working with our Executive Director, Finance Lead and fellow trustees, you will provide financial oversight, assurance and strategic guidance. You will help the Board understand the charity’s financial position, contribute to budgeting and longer-term financial planning, and consider the financial implications of our plans for growth.
You will join a small and committed Board whose members currently bring experience as headteachers and expertise in music education and governance. The Board works closely with our Executive Director and team, combining appropriate oversight with practical support and strategic thinking.
Our trustees share a commitment to the potential of music to make a difference to children’s lives. We particularly value opportunities to see our work first-hand and the impact it has as children develop their confidence, make music together and take part in performances.
