Box Clever is seeking a new trustee with particular experience and expertise in financial management to support the Company as we move into our 30th year, delivering theatre to schools across the country and continuing to reach in excess of 40,000 young people each year.
What difference will you make?
Box Clever is part of the Arts Council’s National Portfolio and as such is an acknowledgment of the Company’s worth to the Arts and Education, nationally. We are about to embark on applying to continue this status for the next five years in which we want to increase the Company’s footprint and to increase our reach to as many schools as possible. A strong board with a range of expertise is vital. You would be joining a Board of twelve able and committed Trustees. The majority of meetings are held online so it does not matter where you are based. We do arrange to meet in person so that Trustees can meet each other and employees and see the work that they are crucial to make happening.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for a Trustee with strong financial expertise to support all financial aspects of Box Clever's work who can
- ensure that Box Clever operates in accordance with Company and Charity Law, including the filing of statutory returns at Companies House and with the Charity Commission.
- ensure the prudent financial management of Box Clever, including discussing, deciding on and reviewing annual budgets.
- ensure Box Clever keeps proper accounts.
- ensure the payment of all taxes due to the Inland Revenue.
- ensure that Box Clever’s assets are safeguarded and are well managed and maintained.
- ensure that Box Clever is properly insured.
Furthermore, we are particularly interested to hear from candidates with any of the following backgrounds / experiences in addition to their financial expertise
- Education / teaching / working with young people
- Local knowledge of, or connections in, Lincolnshire
- Understanding of the UK cultural landscape

What will you be doing?
As Treasurer Designate, you would chair the Finance sub-committee and report on the financial health of the Company to the full Board that meets quarterly. The Company’s management team has always prioritised careful budgeting and valued the regular oversight of the Treasurer to ensure that the Company is always able to carry out its important work in cultural and social education.
The Company’s systems are robust but we never cease to be vigilant and prepared for any eventuality. Box Clever is a small company but one that punches above its weight and we would welcome a new Trustee who not only had the required expertise but also understood the challenges of operating in a world where margins are tight and funding never assured.
