Our organisation has grown hugely in the last 5 years to meet demand for our work post-COVID. We are seeking Trustees with marketing experience who will help us as we continue to meet growing need.

What difference will you make?

The YPPT is going through an exciting time at the moment as we respond to increased demand and prepare to expand our team, albeit in a challenging fundraising climate. Your presence and work on our Board of Trustees could help us reach thousands of disadvantaged children and young people in England who currently lack access to the arts, and are therefore missing out on the social benefits of an education in the arts that our projects provide, especially in the wake of COVID-19 and the cost of living crisis.

You and your experience will help us reach our goals and develop our work more quickly and effectively, and mean that we can get the most out of our resources and people.

What are we looking for?

We are currently looking to grow and expand our work, and are particularly keen to hear from potential trustees with marketing experience. However, if you are interested and have other skills or experience, please do get in touch - we welcome interest from all potential Trustees, regardless of their skills or background, as long as they are enthusiastic about what we do, and keen to support our work. We welcome applications from people of all genders and ethnicities.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What will you be doing?

We are currently looking to appoint at least one new Trustee. Our Trustees are like a non-executive board of directors - although they are not involved in the day-to-day running of the charity, they oversee what we do and make sure we stay on track, meeting twice a year in St Albans and twice a year on Zoom for up to 2 hours at a time. In between meetings, the charity's management and admin team might call on the trustees for particular issues with which they need help or support, such as proofreading funding applications, working on developing particular projects using a trustee's contacts or area of expertise, or simply when a sounding board for new ideas is needed.

Our trustees may also come to our events a few times a year to keep up with what we are doing - this is arranged as convenient for the trustees as we run projects in various areas.

New trustees would be joining our board which currently stands at 6. The only absolute requirements are that you are interested in and enthusiastic about what we do, and that you are willing to work to support the charity using any skills, knowledge or contacts that you have which may be relevant.

Candidates with marketing experience are particularly welcomed as we hope to create a new role specifically in comms/fundraising within the next 2 years. The marketing trustee would support the executive in creating this role, and would be a point of expert help for any new starter.
