About the Role
We are seeking an experienced trustee who can advise on safeguarding to help develop our corporate training on supporting and safeguarding victims of sexual violence.

We are a small organisation dedicated to preventing sexual violence and improving the response for victims to ensure they can access immediate support. Our aim is to create a diverse board which represents the people it serves. We aim to bring in a range of professionals to create the most effective multidisciplinary approach to our activities. Safeguarding is an important part of that, so your experience will be vital in achieving this.
What Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone who understands the importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals and some of the challenges victims face in accessing support for sexual violence.
This could be from a range of professions including teaching, health and social care, or even law. We would be looking for at least 3 years of relevant experience as a professional. It could also be lived experience as someone with an experience of accessing this support and what effective support looks like.

Essential Skills
- Knowledge of safeguarding and/or providing support to victims of sexual violence (e.g., healthcare, mental health etc.).
- Able to work collaboratively and constructively in a team. We want someone who is willing to listen and respect the opinions of others, even if you still disagree with them.
- Able to communicate their availability effectively and consistently.
- Able to take initiative for projects and contribute actively to the charity within our expectation of up to 5 hours per month of time.

What Will You Be Doing?
We are currently recruiting trustees to diversify our governing board with skilled individuals from a range of backgrounds. As part of our general recruitment, we are looking specifically for a trustee who can help develop and manage our Sexual Violence First Responder training. This programme is training for frontline workers on reacting to and safeguarding victims of sexual violence in the immediate aftermath of an incident.
Our trustee for safeguarding will take a role in developing our corporate training and taking an active role in planning our strategic development from this perspective. The activities that we engage in (public education) will naturally involve vulnerable adults, so we are also looking for someone with the experience and skills to advise on our safeguarding policy.

Post-recruitment, our trustees will be trained and our long-term goals for the next year will be decided. We aim to branch out our partnerships with other organisations to host more workshops, conduct more frontline training and maintain healthy relations with organisations who support our mission. As a trustee, you will take part in these efforts alongside our existing board of legal professionals and academics.
To Summarise Our General Expectations
- Up to 5 hours per month towards meetings and activities.
- Play an active role in discussions and meetings.
- Play an active role in our corporate training development alongside the relevant committee and advise on the safeguarding aspects of that training.
- Help us to spot any policy issues or safeguarding risks in our public education and outreach.
You will not be given this responsibility alone and the entire committee will work together on many of these issues. We respect that your first priority will not be us, so we only ask you to communicate your availability regularly to allow us to plan deadlines effectively.
