Help shape the next stage of a growing local dementia charity. Bring your strategic insight and experience in digital, fundraising, research or law to strengthen our Board and improve support for people affected by dementia across the Wirral Peninsula.
What difference will you make?
Your contribution will strengthen Dementia Together Wirral at a pivotal point in its development. Thoughtful strategic input and constructive challenge will help us manage growth responsibly, make the best use of limited resources and build the systems, income and partnerships needed for a sustainable future.
Specialist insight in digital, fundraising, research or law could help us reach new communities, diversify income, use evidence more effectively, strengthen compliance or make better use of technology. More broadly, your perspective will help the Board make sound decisions that keep the charity focused on the needs of people affected by dementia.
The ultimate impact will be felt by our Friends - people living with dementia or memory loss - and by carers and former carers. Our activities provide stimulation, enjoyment, companionship and a sense of belonging, while giving carers opportunities for reassurance, friendship and respite. By helping the charity remain well governed, inclusive and resilient, you will enable more local people to live well, stay active and feel valued and connected.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for someone who will bring energy, commitment and a fresh perspective to the Board. The most important qualities are
- enthusiasm for our vision and a genuine interest in improving the lives of people affected by dementia;
- the ability to think strategically, exercise sound independent judgement and contribute constructively as part of a team;
- effective communication skills and a willingness to prepare for and participate actively in Board discussions;
- a responsible, open and collaborative approach, with a willingness to support and appropriately challenge colleagues; and
- a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion and to the Nolan principles of public life.
We particularly welcome experience in digital, fundraising, research or law. These are priority areas rather than a requirement for every applicant, and relevant experience may have been gained professionally, through volunteering, in community activity or through lived experience.
We also welcome applicants with lived experience of dementia or caring, experience of disability, health inequality or social exclusion, or insight into communities that may face barriers to dementia support. We encourage first-time trustees and applicants of all ages and backgrounds. Previous governance experience is not required a structured induction, training and support will be provided.

What will you be doing?
Dementia Together Wirral currently has a Board of five trustees and is seeking two or three new members, including a Treasurer. The Board works collaboratively with our Charity Manager and small staff team, providing strategic leadership, support and constructive challenge while remaining separate from day-to-day management.
We have grown quickly and now support more than 700 members, with a new member joining on average every day. That growth creates exciting opportunities, but also places pressure on staffing, volunteering, systems, funding and governance. Our priorities include developing services across Wirral, campaigning for better dementia support, securing long-term financial stability, exploring a central hub, and strengthening our people and organisational infrastructure.
As a general trustee, you will help the Board shape and monitor this next stage. We particularly hope you will contribute experience in digital, fundraising, research or law - for example by leading a discussion, joining a working group, advising on a specialist issue or representing the charity externally. You will also have opportunities to visit activities and hear directly from Friends, carers and volunteers.
