Reporting to the Process Engineer, a Tube Assembly and Test Technician is required (working early/late shift) to play a key role in the processing, final assembly and testing of X-ray tubes ready for their incorporation into RTT scanning machines. This will involve operation of large vacuum bakeout ovens and vacuum equipment, final assembly processes, X-ray tube testing and high voltage tube conditioning.
Responsibilities
- Assisting in the vacuum bake-out of X-ray tubes including diagnosis and rectification of vacuum leaks.
- Post bake-out Tube Activation, application of lead plates, tube assembly completion and set up for testing of X-ray tubes.
- High Voltage conditioning and testing of X-ray tubes.
- Supporting tube frame wiring loom build as required.
- Performing preventative maintenance activities as required on vacuum equipment and high voltage test rigs.
- Accurate and consistent recording of data including the use of Excel.
- Use of various plant including vacuum bake-out ovens, conditioning rigs and overhead gantry crane.
- Provide an on-going contribution to the development/improvement of the above processes and safe working practices.
- Basic fault finding on X-ray tubes, test equipment and vacuum systems.
- Raising Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
- Ensuring compliance with COSHH regulations.
- Organising and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

- The ability to follow (and not deviate from) defined processes in work instructions and checklists.

- Ability to learn and understand plant and processes.
- Great attention to detail and fastidiousness is required to maintain the highest standards.
- Comfortable operating computer-controlled processing equipment and test rigs via an HMI interface.
- Self-discipline to ensure maintenance of best possible working practices in working environment.
- Use of MS Office packages, in particular Excel which is used for data recording purposes.
- Ability to write clear and detailed shift hand-over reports.
- Ability to perform necessary manual handling duties according to safe working practices.
Essential
Qualifications
- Previous experience working as a technician (or similar) in a production / laboratory / R&D / hi-tech engineering environment for ~3-4 years or more.
- Demonstrable experience in operating sophisticated manufacturing / processing / scientific equipment, ideally involving vacuum and high voltage systems.
- Familiarity with safe working practices and ensuring that others adhere to practices.
Familiarity with the following would be an advantage but is not essential:
- Production technician experience working on X-rays tubes or similar hi-tech / scientific / medical equipment.
- Experience of working within a clean room environment.
- Helium leak checking of vacuum systems/components.
- Basic maintenance of vacuum systems.
- Working in accordance with a Quality system.
- Working in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- 5S, 6 Sigma Practices.
- Handling of compressed gas cylinders.
- Experience in working around/with lifting equipment, e.g., gantry crane.

Knowledge, Training And Qualifications If Required
- Working in a hi-tech manufacturing or research environment.
- Technical qualifications in an Engineering or Scientific discipline to ONC/HND level (or significant experience in technical role/s)
