THE ROLE
BridgeAI is a national AI adoption programme supported by The Alan Turing Institute and funded by Innovate UK. The programme aims to accelerate the deployment of advanced AI across the UK’s growth-driving sectors, supporting organisations to adopt innovative AI solutions and helping UK AI SMEs bring technologies into real-world use. Through collaboration across industry, government and the innovation ecosystem, BridgeAI will help strengthen UK productivity, competitiveness and AI leadership. The Turing’s role in the programme will be supporting and advising companies seeking to deploy AI solutions into their business operations through a mix of 1-1 advice, cohort-based training, and application toolkits.
The Turing Deployment Advisor (TDA) is a crucial role within the programme. The TDA provides targeted strategic and technical guidance across the programme lifecycle, ensuring that AI deployment is demand-led, operationally grounded and aligned with real-world constraints. The expertise and guidance of the TDA will support with the organisations AI readiness assessment, its deployment plans, as well as the development of credible, high-value use cases, helping end users articulate operational problems, success criteria, constraints and deployment pathways.
How You Will Make An Impact
To form a balanced team of Advisors we are looking for a range of applicants to deliver the following responsibilities across the cohort. Candidates may be able to contribute in some, or all, of these areas:
- Use Case Development: TDAs will work with prospective companies to scope, develop, and harden their prospective use case for the deployment of AI solutions in critical operations.
- AI Deployment Capability Building: TDAs support organisations in strengthening their internal AI capabilities, enabling them to navigate complexities of critical process deployment.
- End-user Readiness Assessment: TDAs provide an initial assessment of whether the organisation has a credible operating environment for deployment, covering proposed site or context, operational need, internal sponsor, data access, likely workflow implications, governance constrains and any major dependencies that could affect progression.
- Technical Deployment Guidance: TDAs guide organisations through their AI deployment journey, building on the initial assessments, site readiness, governance approvals, workflow changes, staff roles and change management requirements. TDAs provide both generalist and specialist AI expertise covering the latest developments in AI and ML, as well as best practice in areas such as AI security, privacy, and safety. Where relevant, TDAs will source additional expertise for deployers, depending on the unique needs of the company.
- Safety, Ethics, and Assurance Advice: TDAs advise on risk identification (bias, misuse, hallucination, privacy, IP, safety), proposing mitigations and helping companies to define documentation. Advice is aligned to recognised frameworks (e.g., ISO/IEC 23894 AI risk management, ISO/IEC 42001 AI management systems, ISO/IEC 27001/27701, NIST AI RMF) and emerging AI assurance standards from the National Physical Laboratory.
- Evaluate & Monitor Progress: TDAs track organisational progress throughout the deployment journey, providing targeted technical assurance input for high-risk or complex projects. They use the baseline assessment and collect evidence to support stage gates and stepwise funding decisions. TDAs should flag concerns early, advise when a deployment should be paused or should not proceed, and recommend appropriate monitoring mechanisms to sustain performance post go-live.
- Share Domain Expertise: TDAs will utilise their expertise in one or more of the Industrial Strategy Eight sectors (Advance Manufacturing, Clean Energy Industries, Creative Industries, Defence, Digital and Technologies, Financial Services, Life Sciences, Professional & Business Services) to guide organisations with their AI deployment journey.

About You
- PhD or equivalent level of industry experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in a discipline which provides a good basis for understanding statistics, data science and programming.
- Demonstrable expertise in deployment of data science and AI technologies, either in a generalist capacity and/or in defined specialised area(s) of expertise.
- Proven track record in supporting organisations with the adoption of new technologies or implementing cutting edge research.
- Working knowledge of UK GDPR/DPA 2018, data governance, information security (ISO/IEC 27001/27701), or AI risk/assurance frameworks (ISO/IEC 23894, ISO/IEC 42001, NIST AI RMF).
- Ability to analyse complex problems, identify interconnections, and propose commercially viable solutions.
- Ability to write clear technical artefacts and communicate with both executives and engineers.
- Leads and directs with responsibility for developing, communicating, and implementing action plans and objectives linked to companies engaged in BridgeAI.
- Ability to set objectives and regularly monitor and review them.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
This part-time (0.2 FTE) post is offered on a secondment basis for 1 year. The successful candidate will remain employed by their home organisation, spending 20% of their working time in this role and 80% in their substantive role. The annual salary will be matched and pro-rated to the 0.2 FTE commitment.
Successful applicants must obtain the agreement of their existing organisation to undertake the secondment before accepting the role. The secondment will be subject to agreement between the Turing and the relevant organisation.
