Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Turner/Miller role based in Glasgow. The Turner/Miller will set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines along with CNC mills to produce precision components to specification, reading and interpreting engineering drawings and job sheets.

Responsibilities include:

- Selecting appropriate tools
- Measuring and checking work using gauges and other instruments
- Ensuring dimensional accuracy and surface finish
- Routine machine maintenance
- Safe handling of materials
- Collaboration with fabrication and gearbox repair teams to meet customer deadlines
The role involves contributing to continuous improvement in machining processes, maintaining a clean and safe work area, and supporting occasional urgent jobs to meet the company’s quick turnaround commitments.
Qualifications
- Strong ability in manual turning and milling, including setting up lathes and milling machines and producing precision components to tight tolerances.
- Experience of CNC milling and lathes.
- Competence in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, using measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, vernier calipers), and completing job documentation accurately.
- Experience working in a machine shop environment with knowledge of general engineering practices, basic machine maintenance, and safe material handling.
- Understanding of fabrication and welding processes (e.g., MIG/TIG) and familiarity with related equipment such as drills, slotting machines, press brakes, and guillotines is an advantage.
- Awareness of health and safety regulations in an engineering workshop, with a commitment to safe working practices and housekeeping standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities and urgent customer requirements.
- Relevant apprenticeship or vocational qualification in mechanical engineering, machining, or a related discipline; equivalent experience in a similar role will be considered.
- Prior experience in gearbox repair, roller and shaft work, or general industrial maintenance is beneficial but not essential.
