Pathway Academy Zone is recruiting an experienced and motivated Tutor to join our Alternative Provision team in Stoke-on-Trent.

We support young people who may not currently thrive within a traditional mainstream education environment.

The role requires someone who can combine strong teaching with patience, resilience, and the ability to build trust with learners who may have additional learning, behavioral, or emotional needs.

The Role

You will plan and deliver engaging learning sessions designed around the individual needs of our learners.

Responsibilities Include

  • Planning and delivering structured and engaging lessons
  • Teaching learners individually and in small groups
  • Differentiating learning according to individual ability and need
  • Supporting young people with SEND, SEMH, and behavioral needs
  • Helping learners re-engage with education
  • Establishing clear routines, expectations, and professional boundaries
  • Monitoring and assessing learner progress
  • Providing constructive feedback and setting achievable targets
  • Completing learner records and progress documentation
  • Working collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and pastoral colleagues
  • Supporting individual learning and behavior plans
  • Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and learner welfare

About You

We would particularly welcome applicants with experience in:

  • Alternative Provision
  • Secondary schools
  • SEND or SEMH provision
  • Pupil Referral Units
  • Further Education
  • Vocational training
  • Behavior or pastoral support

You will need to be confident, adaptable, and able to communicate effectively with young people from a range of backgrounds.

Qualifications

Ideally, applicants will hold a recognized teaching qualification such as:

  • PGCE
  • QTS
  • QTLS
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

Or another recognized teaching qualification.

Candidates with strong vocational expertise and an appropriate teaching or training qualification may also be considered.
