Software Engineer – APIs & Integration | TypeScript | AWS | REST APIs

Permanent | Market+ Salary + Bonus
UK Remote | Home-Based

We're looking for an experienced API Software Engineer to join a growing engineering team building and evolving a critical API platform that sits between customer-facing applications, third parties and core business systems.

This is a great opportunity for a TypeScript-focused software engineer who enjoys building APIs, integrations and cloud-native services, and wants to play a key role in developing the next generation of a platform already being used by major third parties.

The platform is currently evolving towards a modern TypeScript architecture, with new endpoints and functionality being developed using TypeScript, OpenAPI standards and cloud-native technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing and maintaining REST APIs used by internal and external customers.
  • Building new functionality using TypeScript and modern API development practices.
  • Developing new API endpoints and services as the platform continues to evolve.
  • Building integrations between external applications, third-party systems and internal platforms.
  • Developing APIs that allow third parties to access product and customer information, retrieve pricing and place orders.
  • Working with OpenAPI / Swagger to design clear, consistent and maintainable APIs.
  • Developing within a containerised, cloud-based environment, with services deployed into clusters.
  • Working with AWS and technologies such as Docker, ECS/Fargate and API Gateway.
  • Writing automated unit, integration and performance tests.
  • Supporting CI/CD pipelines and contributing to a strong DevOps culture.
  • Troubleshooting production issues and improving API performance, reliability and scalability.
  • Contributing to technical and architectural decisions as the TypeScript platform develops.
  • Producing clear technical documentation and sharing knowledge across the team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience working with an existing enterprise API platform or integrating with internal and third-party systems would also be highly beneficial.

There is an existing Java-based platform within the wider estate, so exposure to Java would be useful, but TypeScript and API development are the key areas of focus for this role.

We're particularly interested in engineers who:

  • Have professional experience building APIs using TypeScript / Node.js.
  • Have a strong understanding of REST API design and OpenAPI standards.
  • Have experience building integrations between systems and services.
  • Understand cloud-based and containerised application environments.
  • Are comfortable working with AWS and modern development practices.
  • Can work within an existing platform while also helping shape its future architecture.
  • Take ownership of their work and care about building well-engineered, maintainable software.
  • Can communicate technical concepts clearly and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
