UAV Engineer – Autonomous Systems
Help take an advanced interceptor UAV from prototype to an operational product, airframe, propulsion, avionics, flight control, sensors, comms, and autonomy.
This is a hands-on role covering design, integration, and flight test. You’ll work with Systems, GNC, Software, Electronics, and AI/ML engineers through a rapid build–test–learn cycle.
What you’ll do
- Support design of the UAV platform: airframe, propulsion, power, avionics, and flight-control systems
- Integrate and troubleshoot autopilots, sensors, communications, payloads, and mission systems
- Configure and tune flight-control systems, including PX4 or equivalent
- Support integration of GNC, autonomy, and AI/ML perception onto the aircraft
- Plan and run ground and flight tests, then feed results back into the design
- Diagnose issues and implement practical hardware and software fixes
- Work with suppliers on third-party equipment
- Support verification, customer demonstrations, and trials (travel required)
- Produce test plans, procedures, risk assessments, and technical documentation

What you’ll bring
- Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Electronic Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline
- Practical experience developing and integrating UAVs or autonomous aerial systems
- Understanding of flight controls, aerodynamics, propulsion, power, and avionics
- Experience with PX4 or ArduPilot
- Hands-on UAV hardware/software integration, including sensors and comms
- Familiarity with C/C++, Python, and/or MATLAB/Simulink
- Knowledge of MAVLink, CAN, and RF datalinks
- Experience planning and supporting flight test

Nice to have
- Novel UAV platforms, not only COTS
- Lifecycle experience from prototype to delivery
- GNC, autonomy, or AI/ML perception
- ROS/ROS2, QGroundControl, SIL/HIL
- UAV regulation and safety
- GVC (or willingness to obtain), full driving licence, and willingness to travel
