UAV/Ardupilot Technician

About the Company
Our client is a fast-growing technology company operating at the cutting edge of UAV and edge computing systems, developing unmanned platforms for defence, security and commercial applications. As the business scales its engineering team, they're looking for a hands-on UAV/Ardupilot Technician to support build, integration and flight-test activity across their platform range.
The Role
You'll be responsible for the physical build, configuration and troubleshooting of UAV platforms, with a strong focus on Ardupilot-based autopilot systems. This is a hands-on technician role sitting at the intersection of mechanical assembly, electronics and flight software configuration – ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full stack of a drone build rather than being confined to one discipline.

Key Responsibilities
- Build, assemble and maintain UAV airframes, including mechanical, electrical and payload integration
- Configure, calibrate and tune Ardupilot-based flight controllers (Copter/Plane/Rover as applicable)
- Set up and troubleshoot GPS, IMU, compass, telemetry and RF systems
- Use Mission Planner/QGroundControl for parameter configuration, firmware updates and diagnostics
- Support ground testing, bench testing and flight testing, identifying and resolving faults across hardware and software
- Diagnose and repair faulty units, feeding issues back to engineering for design improvement
- Maintain accurate build, test and maintenance records
- Work closely with electronics, software and systems engineers to support new platform development and iteration

Essential Experience
- Demonstrable hands-on experience with Ardupilot (or PX4) flight controller setup, tuning and troubleshooting
- Practical UAV build/assembly experience – mechanical and electrical
- Comfortable with soldering, wiring harnesses and basic electronics fault-finding
- Working knowledge of GCS software (Mission Planner, QGroundControl or equivalent)
- Understanding of UAV subsystems: motors, ESCs, batteries, sensors, RF links
- Strong troubleshooting mindset – happy working through faults methodically rather than needing a fixed script
